Oh man, you have been very busy. thank you so much for posting this stuff. Some of it I actually remember from back in the day. We could buy the likes of EGM and Gamefan (sometimes Gamepro but that was shit from what I remember) in the UK.

I always wondered about that white Sonic 2 level. Nice pics btw.

Oh I'm quoting the PS Gaiden pic just for the sake of it, it's really hard to find anything about it. I wonder if SEGA ever tought about bringing it outside Japan.

Yakumo > You're welcome! I haven't spent much time on GamePro but yeah, it doesn't seem very good.

    Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat - Mega Drive - unreleased (Sega Visions 10 - november 1992, Sega Visions 11 - february 1993, Sega Visions 12 - april 1993)

Someone made a repro of this game and released it 2 years ago.

    Decap Attack - Mega Drive - beta (Sega Visions 05 - summer 1991, Sega Visions 06 - Autumn 1991)

Different HUD. Actually, it's not excactly the same kind of heart which is pictured on the screen in the final version.

Earl Weaver Baseball - Mega Drive - unreleased ? (Sega Visions 06 - Autumn 1991)
EA published a few baseball games on Mega Drive such as Tony La russa (1993), MLBPA (1994) and Super Baseball 2020 (port of an arcade game) but this one is probably not related to one of them.

    Earthworm Jim - Mega Drive - beta (Sega Visions 19 - June-July 1994)

Different HUD and some parts of the stages are different too.

Also, Jim seems bigger in this version. Comparison with the final version :

This character only appears in Earthworm Jim 2.

Kid Chameleon - Mega Drive - beta (Sega Visions 07 - winter 1991-92)
Different HUD and different power block (green P instead of white P).

    Outworld 2375 A.D. - Mega Drive - unreleased ? (Sega Visions 15 - October 1993)
Here is the only info I found about this game so far:
    http://forums.sega.com/archive/index.php/t-92786.html
Nothing about it on the Heartbeat's page on Sega Retro.
    http://segaretro.org/Heartbeat_Personal_Trainer

    Quackshot - Mega Drive - beta (Sega Visions 05 - summer 1991, Sega Visions 06 - Autumn 1991)

"Anger" instead of "temper" (that makes me think of Castle of illusion where "Lives" was replaced by "Tries").
    "Point" instead of "points"

    Ratchet and Bolt - 32X - unreleased (Sega Visions 24 - May 1995)
Sega-16 made a good article about this game: http://www.sega-16.com/2013/10/unfinished-business-ratchet-bolt/

Thanks for the info! What I don't understand is why did they take so long to (try to) localize this game. It was released in Japan in 1990 (21 december) and the earliest article I found about this localization is taken from a mid 1993 issue.

I think it was probably never going to be released. Notice they said it was by namco as well. Namco have never released any NCS Misaya game in the west as far as I remember.

Insane Warrior was developed by Core Design and was unfortunately cancelled. It wasn't exactly a playable game, more or less a tech demo. Part of the team which developed the game went onto developing Ninja: Shadow Of Darkness which was released September 1998. The game itself looked very similar in terms of the camera style, it was identical to Ninja. I also believe some of the ideas of this game were implemented into Ninja therefore, it could be quite possible to just call it an early tech demo of Ninja.

Can't seem to find any info on this game anywhere, it was cancelled in very early development so this is likely me saying this is the first time it has ever been said on the internet.

Yakumo > Indeed, but Namco is said to be the publisher of this game in each of the 6 articles I read about this game. I remember having read Dreamworks was meant to be the publishers on another forum but never found any article which confirmed this fact.

Decapicitated > Sorry, never heard about this one. AFAIK, the last games Core Design developed for the Saturn were released in 1996 (except for the often delayed Swagman), so it probably was a PS1 exclusive. If it's just a tech demo, you should take a look at developers' personal websites (tons of protos and unreleased stuff there).
If I find something relevant during my research, I'll post it here.

So, I'm pretty good with a scanner and Photoshop, and if there are any screenshots in this thread that people want a more detailed/cleaner scan of, I can probably do that. Just try to keep the requests limited to the really important stuff!

Here are a couple unreleased NES game boxes I recently scanned from promotional material:

Screenshots from Pyross, based on the arcade game Wardner.

Note 1: There was a port of Wardner on the Famicom Disk System, but it had nothing to do with this one.

Note 2: The source material for these was TINY, I did the best I could to bring out detail.

Yeah, it's definitely a PSX exclusive. It was nothing more than a tech demo which was developed after Tomb Raider, but before Ninja as the team working on this was pushed on to making Ninja in 1997 to be released for 1998. This game got canned or the engine was probably re-used for Ninja. The game is very similar as I said before and these are the only screenshots in existence, I got these off a website which belonged to one of the devs a VERY long time ago; the website is now defunct:

    Enjoy!

I sometimes read it was a canceled localization of Wani Wani world but it seems it's a different game/different port of the game.

Could be a mistake. I've never heard about a Mega Drive version.

I don't know if it is related to Flying Nightmares. Harrier disapeared around the same time Flying Nightmares made its first appearance. Plus, it's the same kind of game and both of them were meant to be published by Domark (Flying Nightmares finally made it on other machines).

The mention of Atari Classics may be mistaken for Midway Classics? Didn't some Atari games feature on those packs?

The Xmen COTA beta image uses the same font my Saturn beta has. That uses arcade splash screens too such as a Q-Sound splash screen! It also features much more rough graphical effects than the final aracde and final saturn version. It's as if the Saturn is running early arcade code whichcould be possible dudging from early Japanese promotion footage for the saturn game.

    Interesting.
I still have this beta somewhere but never played it...

The same year Atari Classics was announced, the Mega Drive saw the release of William Arcade's Greatest Hits, which include games Williams published and/or developed back in the day. None of them was related to Atari though.
According to the lists I posted, both the Game Gear and the Mega Drive versions were meant to be published by Sega (which made an agreement with Atari more than a year before that).

Odd that Mega Force listed Beavis and Butthead twice for Mega Drive, a April release and a June release. Wonder what that's about.
