Thanks for finding the exact links. However remeber though I am also putting up more rare stuff (ie thats not on the net) and as I have already mentioned previously, its worth uploading these relatively small files since then this will be the only place where it is possible to find pc game betas all collected together. My main goal is to collect everything in one place, rare betas with common betas side by side, and try to have a server with an almost complete collection of pc game betas thats possible to have. I will also try to provided unedited betas that are much difficult to come across and thus more rare. I really appreciate that you found the links though.

This sounds awesome man. Some of those betas and alphas sound really cool. The Duke 3d one is that lameduke (as released by 3drealms) or a different duke 3d beta?

Ok thanks. But a full comprehensive source wouldnt be too bad, would it? I mainly got that idea from the game magazine 'RETROGAMER' which spoke of how cool it is to have an ftp of fully collected stuff. All credit would always be given to the original sites who released them. However on that note, I 'll start uploading more interesting stuff. Cheers for saving me time.

Upon re-check (checked entry 21), the technological demo does not seem to be modified much. Every file is from 1995 appart from two that are from 1997. It also includes an additional new help file in getting it to run. As for Unreal 1997 beta, some of the final modification come in early 1998. Entries 8 and 9, in comparison, are a lot more heavily modified as 9 has got a new installer and 8 is just a bunch of maps from the 1997 beta that you can only run if you have the original unreal.

Ok, all the files that have been uploaded so far can be found here. I'll try and sort out some sort of folder scheme at some stage, but for now it's just a file index.

tom101: perhaps the people behind PC Games That Weren´t would be interested in some of the betas. So perhaps you should contact them ?

here is the link to them

That would be WindowsKiller, and he's already responded to this topic (a few times). ;-)

All of these Unreal betas made me want to finally finish the damn game, so I got Unreal Gold as opposed to my original disc. The game has definitely stood the test of time and is gorgeous to this day.

Is the Duke Nukem 3D Beta the same thing as LameDuke on 3D Realms website? Or was that the alpha?

I have uploaded Kingdoms of War beta to the server ( Its a massive multiplayer kingdom simulation in a standard isometric viewpoint). Its the proper beta, not the one from betawatcher.com which I dont think is even a beta at all.

I'll try to periodically add new stuff ( as well as getting everything mentioned so far onto the server ). Still as Alchy has already mentioned, if anyone feels like adding something that is glaring omitted and floating about on the net, that would be great.

I have pooled together all the sources/links to 1990s alpha/beta pc games posted by people throughout this thread and re-arranged them in yearly order for ease of reference. This can now be found on the first post.

Also I have come across a thread on betaarchive.co.uk that contains more pc game alphas/betas, some of which have not been mentioned here. Here is the link to the forums (http://www.betaarchive.co.uk/forum/index.php), and under 'Game Betas' you can find some games like a Diablo Pre-release demo and Tomb Raider 2 beta.

Alternatively, you can also check the official tomb raider forums for a discussion of the Tomb Raider 2 beta, and some screenshots, and download link:
    http://www.larashome.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21421&st=30

For the Diablo Pre-release Demo, you can find the file discussion and download link on this Diablo forum:
    http://78pc209.sshunet.nl/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=471&PN=0&TPN=9

Also I came across another website with the Starcraft Battlenet Beta, with a good visual guide on how to get it ot work. You can view all here:
    http://sc.gosugamers.net/features.php?i=a&id=2198

I am still falling behind in getting all 1990s pc games up on the server, so its realistically going to be more of a long term goal from now.
