USB GDrom Thread

    He's added a couple more videos & rars, on his dreamcast page.

    The two new rars include directory structures.
    (root_init.rar & root_init2.rar)

    Example:
    [A-B]
    [C-D]
    [A]
    eg.....


    Note:
    The launch dashboard.iso file does nothing it's just a zeroed file.

    I had my hopes up thinking CUSTOM DASHBOARDS!!!, but no :(

    I'm a bit confused? RIP what menu?

    The launch dashboard file is an empty 4kb file named launch dashboard.iso I'm not sure why he included it in the rars.

    Actually, I may try that or at least see if I can see the content.
    If you open & close the lid (switch installed) it reverts the image to the boot image, ie, the device menu, not that there would be much point as it would just be a 1st_read.bin file.

    the concept is to boot to Dreamshell or SD_RIP after that to trigger the device menu so you can capture it, the advantage of this is that some people here will understand the communication protocol so it will be easier to make a new one

    If anyone is SERIOUS about writing a replacement menu then MNEMO can give more details, I asked about this but he was not too eager to write another menu system with eye candy :D

    Ah I tried loading dreamshell, from SD, but the issue is the UGC doesn't show as a GDRom drive, in fact it doesn't show at all in dreamshell.

    If I select the ripper app, it just sits at loading for ever.

    Ok I know it supports 2tb but has anyone tried more than 2TB?

    2TB is a fat32 limit.

    Also 2TB is more than enought to store all GDI rips from all regions & still have a crap load of space left.

    Can anyone with a v1 UGC (first 8 devices sold) test the NTSC Vanishing Point GDI rip please & see if you can get past the Accessing Data screen.

    I have tried the Trurip & Nitroroms versions & both exhibit the same problem.

    Mnemo is unable to recreate this crash & I'm thinking it maybe an issue with the original units & I unique software fix is required.

    The PAL version of the game works perfectly fine.

    The could be the same for the rest of the trouble games I have, as again he says he has no issues, but clearly there are.

    I have tried on multiple devices (Dreamcasts & USB Media) & even a Dreamcast with Japanese-cakes new firmware all exhibit the crashes.

    I'm trying to pinpoint how I & others have issues with these game yet mnemo doesn't.

    Hey guys,

    I downloaded the 90 minute Shenmue Undub, which are .mdf files. Obviously, the adapter doesn't play these file types and based on what I've seen, the max file size of CDI wouldn't allow to convert the full .mdf file? So, I tried several programs to convert it to an ISO, and every time the ISO file is smaller and doesn't boot on the Dreamcast. Any ideas?

    I downloaded GDI Builder and it seems like it doesn't support .mdf. Do you have any other ideas, or am I doing something wrong?

    Extract the .mdf file so you have the files.
    Get a dummy IP.bin (use one from another game & hex edit it's name) unscramble the 1st_read.bin & then make your new gdi file.

    UGC doesn't require track01 or 02 to function.

    I would said original dump .gdi, not rebuild.

    Unfortanely you need the original to dump it in .gdi file from your DC or someone if can do it for you. The .gdi files is the perfect image about a DC games, not ripped like .cdi.
    The best with ODDE like USB GD rom is the gdi file (execpt sturwind because is a cdi).

    I am playing a modded version with JP voices and english subtitles. What does having the original GDI ripped have to do with it?

    I have the EXACT same behavior with the US GDI and I even told MNEMO about that last week (the day before he uploaded the new cdi firmware to his site).
    He says he can't recreate it. Interesting theory about the first batch of devices. My DC has that region-free dev-animation bios btw... so what do you suggest?

    I have one of the original units too, I'll need to try it out and report back, I'm away from my DC for a few days but I'll check it out
