It may have taken 19 years, but the wait is finally over. Your first glimpse at Sonic X-treme, running on the PC and Sega Saturn, has arrived.

The goal for this project is to release some playable Sonic X-treme Builds for the world to enjoy, based on the original engine.

Please keep in mind that these are not final builds of the game, engine or levels.

This is a preview of the work that JollyRoger has been doing to port the game to modern Windows OS and OpenGL. It includes a tweaked level that has been modified for playability, along with the original level files as they were found. While some modification to the code had to be made so that the game could be played, the game is essentially unchanged to allow for the most authentic gameplay experience possible.

There is no sound. There is no music. Nor is there any real goal. But for fans who have waited over 19 years, there is nothing like playing the real thing.

Do remember that this is a technical demonstration and nowhere near a finished game, so there are plenty of issues. The following list only contains issues that involve a partial or incomplete port of the original engine on Windows 7+ and OpenGL.

This is amazing. If Sega tightened up the controls a little, there could have been such potential for a fun game. The gravity gimmick seems interesting. Oh well.

This is fantastic! It's really interesting to see that everything is a sprite and nothing, besides the basic blue color, is in the background! I even found a way to go under the level and see the Starfish sprite first hand, really adds a sense of depth to the game! Defiantly looking forward to future levels being ported (specifically the Gold Tile Level). Strange how the controls are floatier (is that even a word?) that I imagined, still very interesting look!

I honestly just signed up for this.
I want to thank both Jollyroger for the work that was put into this.
This is truly an amazing achievement & has made all those years of wondering and longing worth it.
