R.I.P. Iwata-san. Thank you for so many happy Nintendo gaming memories over the past 20 years. The gaming world will miss you dearly. Thoughts are with your nearest and dearest right now.

Iwata was at Nintendo longer than I've been alive (though only just), but his legacy will never be forgotten. If not for anything else, I'll remember him for leading the company that gave the world the DS and Wii - you can't argue with that level of achievement!

Been processing this since last night. I'm feeling how I felt the day that Sega announced they were going 3rd party. I don't know what will happen with Nintendo (I hope someone half as awesome as Iwata is the next president, my assumption is it will likely be Takeda (since I doubt Miyamoto would want it), but I do know that the gaming industry just lost one of the best people in it this weekend.

I know a lot of people (that don't own or play Nintendo games...) on the internet have enjoyed tearing into Nintendo over the past decade+, but the fact of the matter is that the time period during which Iwata was the president of Nintendo has been one of the best times to be a fan of Nintendo. Nintendo has consistently been one of the only console makers that will constantly take gambles on quirky ideas for their hardware and being a 3DS owner has been the second best gaming period of my life (behind being a Dreamcast owner when it was alive).

Iwata was not only the ideal CEO for a mega-gaming company (see: Nintendo Directs, Iwata Asks) due to the way he directly interacted with the fans, but he's also the model for a CEO in general (see: cutting his pay in half when the Wii U wasn't doing as well as hoped, apologizing directly when fans were disappointed with his Nintendo Direct).

Satoru Iwata was one of the greatest people in the higher echelons of the video games business, and he will be terribly missed.

    RIP Iwata.

And I don't have Photoshop, so here is my sad tribute in Paint:

I will always remember him for his catchphrase "Please Understand"

I wonder what direction the company will take now. I wonder if Reggie is next in line to the throne.

Althrough I think it was time to he resigns as president (Nintendo archaic politics are killing it), he surely made a great career in his life, being one of the main programmers for HAL, some pokemon games and etc, and to think about that he began as a HAL programmer in 83, in ten years he ended being the HAL president, then nine years later, for Nintendo.

This news was a really punch for the industry, never saw something like that after Sega decided to abandon console business, and the worst thing is that he was still acting as the president, the only important personel IIRC to die was after they left Nintendo, such as Yamauchi and Yokoi.

No wonder why he didn't show at the E3 direct, he didn't want people see his poor condition.

It was told at Nintendo site a year ago, but I didn't know until yesterday, probably it was something directed to the investors, not to the general public.
