A few searches here for "Toshiba virtual" and "Toshiba vr" didn't return any results, so I thought I would share something I found when doing a Google image search for "Sega Activator" (the Genesis accessory).

Apparently Toshiba has been doing some research in the field of virtual reality. The most popular image of it is (here), but it looked like it might be an altered image, so after some additional searching I found this: (link)

It's an interesting concept. Yea / nay?

...until the air inside that bubble is over. Then it starts to be funny for anyone else around.

That pic really reminds me of that youtube video of when the a zoo keeper's head gets stuck in an elephants rear.

The helmet looks, interesting. The problem is that no one is actually commercially or academically (to my knowledge) doing VR in a way that properly represents a virtual environment. What needs to be done is to combine head and eye tracking with a stereoscopic or paired display system. Each eye would then be bound to one of two cameras in the virtual environment. As the focal range (important) and point of focus changes, the display system would adapt the camera images accordingly. This would allow the virtual environment to finally be represented in a manner close to the way human vision works. If only I had money and time...
