I thought we'd seen the end of what treasures were found preserved in their unfinished prototype forms on Katana development workstation hard drives - this is a GREAT surprise discovery! What other late period Dreamcast games made their way to other systems? The House Of The Dead III, Gunvalkyrie and Jet Set Radio Future are titles I seem to remember were heavily rumoured, but did they ever make it to being actual working code? I'm fairly certain Panzer Dragoon Orta was still in the pre-planning stage before making the switch over to Xbox, though I'd love to be proved wrong...

Wow, this is really cool! Thanks for posting this.

How does the game play? How early is it?

Also impressed! I didn't think this was anything more than an 'announced title' that was never actually started.

Hope you can get this out there, somehow... although, going on previous similar postings, someone's (probably) going to make you an offer you can't refuse and it will disappear off the face of the earth as quickly as it appeared. Yeah, call me a pessimist...

Still, a great find and proof it actually exists! If you do sell it on, could you post some decent YouTube vids for the sake of preservation, I think most of us DC fans would be happy with that :)

It boots directly to a sort of character select screen, after you have chosen the character it begins at Level 1.
I look for an way to make a video of the gameplay :)

Luckily I'm not that sort of guy, I'm thinking for starting up something like a donation based thing (I've spend lot of dollars just to buy this box!)
My intention is to release it to the community sometime.

And don't worry, the game has been backed up to lot of servers that I own and even to a backup tape. This game won't be lost anytime soon :)

Sounds like its in good hands so there's nothing to worry about :)

I've never played the XBOX version, I wonder how this one compares. I remember after the DC one was cancelled it still took awhile for the XBOX one to make it out, so between that development period there must have been lots of changes.

So many games being developed late into the Dreamcast's life found their way onto rival platforms, yet Ecco II disappeared without a trace - did anyone ever get that prototype working?

There is a god after all! :)

That's great news... I guess the big question is whether it's possible to extract the contents and make it bootable on a standard Dreamcast console - Have you looked into this? I hope you can get a fundraiser together, the best thing to do is send Assembler a message and see what he says.

    Some more pics!

Here are 3 more pics :

    List of files.

    WP_20130921_002.jpg
Root directory of the devbox's hdd
Test and served where not there, they are tests from me to get the whole thing working.
Served is even an earlier version of Half-Life 1 that I had on another devkit (that died in 13 hours a few months back...), unfortunately it misses the binaries to start. Dates 16 April 2001
MattScene has missing binaries and looks like an alpha of ToeJam & Earl 3, it dates 8 September 2000.
SceneCB this is the build that works and plays, dated from 2 July 2001

    WP_20130921_003.jpg
This is the first screen you see when you start the game, after character selection it shows the loading screen and get you to the first level.

This was I think a very early beta as the save features are not there, no cutscenes. I think this is the build that you see on the IGN video that's floating around on youtube.
