What really makes something rare these days? Like really i want to know since alot of stuff can be made into a reproduction version or brought back for the "retro" culture. Especially digital only type stuff is becoming rare well..unless a hacker finds a way to reproduce the item or remove drm. Examples i seen so far are rare snes carts and ps4s with p.t on them.

So let me know what u think.

Rare literally means that something is hard to find and/or was produced in limited quantities. People on eBay naturally want to exaggerate the rarity of whatever they're selling so they get more money. There's that, and there are people on the internet who decide that something is rare based on nothing at all.

Another thing worth noting is that rarity isn't necessarily related to an item's price. There are things that are rare that aren't expensive, and things that are expensive but not rare.

Probably the rarest thing I own is my Victor Wondermega RG-M1. I don't know exactly how many of these were sold, but it's definitely not common, even in Japan.

In this hobby I've found the following to be mostly true.
    Rare isn't rare.
    Alpha isn't an alpha.
    Beta isn't a beta.
    Prototype isn't a prototype.

Kind of needs a video like they had back in the 70's of I'm just a bill made into a " I'm just a build ".

Rare = something is not readily available to buy most of the time

    Gamecube component cable, not rare
    Debug ps1, not rare
    10m model ps1, rare.

Shouldnt debug system be considered rare because the average joe isnt buying a debug system for his kid on xmas or going to walmart for it. Those items are only giving to certain people who have proof of a game in development or buys it off here.lol

Because the 3 big console makers now release "limited" edition stuff all the time and over time it becomes rare right.
