TecToy’s CEO Stefano Arnhold Ceo attended the Comic Con Experience 2016 in São Paulo, Brazil last weekend and dropped some pretty interesting tidbits during a speech about his company.

He spoke about several details about the company’s history, which will turn 30 years old next year, some games that Brazilian fans have been requesting TecToy bring to market and, of course, about the new Genesis/Mega Drive they recently announced.

Arnhold also noted that Haruki Satomi, the CEO of SEGA Japan, will visit Brazil to help celebrate TecToy’s anniversary and their 30 years of partnership together.

    New Genesis/Mega Drive

About the new Genesis/Mega Drive, Arnhold said the company is still working to make the hardware as close as possible to the original and also that the six-button joystick will be sold for the people who want to play games that require it.

    New cartridges

He said TecToy has advanced to get licenses of some games and new cartridges will be produced for the celebration, but he can’t tell which games will be release in this format before all the deals are closed.

Will there be a new Master System with cartridge slot?

[IMG]He said “maybe.” Everything will depend of the success of the new Mega Drive/Genesis. For now, they are really happy with the numbers and the company is focused on the new Genesis/Mega Drive. However, for the future, TecToy hopes not only launch a new Master System with cartridge slot but also other “SEGA Products.”

You'd think that Sega would consider pumping out a few carts in the States, since they're pushing those Firecore clones at every store under the sun this winter.

After the first announcement, I'm not looking forward to this.
I think they will release only the common Sonic games and a few others.

TecToy opens Mega Drive pre-orders, offers personalized systems

SEGA fans have been eagerly anticipating TecToy’s new Mega Drive, which is scheduled to begin shipping this summer. The Brazilian hardware manufacturer announced that pre-orders are now open, and it will also offer customers another way to show off their new system – by personalizing it with their name on it.

TecToy will allow names or phrases up to 15 characters in length beginning today through Jan. 15, 2017, but they also made sure to note that they reserve the right to refuse offensive words.

Pre-orders are currently on a 5-percent discount, which brings the TecToy Mega Drive to R$379.05, which is about $115, and shipping is expect to begin in June 2017. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like TecToy is shipping the system outside of Brazil, so the only way to get your hands on one is to make friends with a Brazilian or hope they eventually find their way to eBay.

TecToy recently made big news with the announcement that they plan to produce new Mega Drive cartridges and are considering manufacturing other SEGA products, like a new Master System.

You can find the TecToy Mega Drive pre-order page here.

I'm more than aware of that, but they're at least aware that there's money to be had in Genesis games, otherwise they wouldn't push out those to so many retailers (I doubt Atgames is doing that themselves).

Cartridge releases in North America would be a colossal waste of money.

I don't think they would be, not rolled out as much as the Firecore things are, obviously. But maybe a small online only sale of rereleases of a few good Sega IPs (or anyone else they could get on board) would make more than it would cost.

Sega just whores out the trademarks, when you manufacture a product like a mega-clone, you don't directly distribute to retailers. You go through a local distributor, they buy the stock from you and then sell to retailers, you never interact with the retail stores

Sega don't care, Sega has Pachinko machines. I'm sure that if Nintendo was in the same position, they'd do exactly the same.

So, are they going to release any games with a save feature? Such as RPGs, Pulseman, Megaman, Monster World 4, etc?
Or they just going to resell chinese "black-drop-pcb" carts?
