Is this the one in Akihabara? They were always a bit of a ripoff, but it sounds like they have got worse...

Hold on, what? $188 USD for Bomberman 93'? That's impossible. Super Potato's prices are bad (both in Akihabara and Osaka), but they're not THAT bad. And occasionally I would find things that were in better condition than on Yahoo, for a better price after factoring in postage and credit card payment fees (which they got rid of fairly recently. Used to be 100 yen to pay with a card).

Try the smaller one in Ikebukuro - still expensive, but not as gaijin-tax oriented as Akihabara.

    I second this!

I actually found pretty sweet deals in the Ikebukuro Super Potato.
Some even cheaper then book/hard off etc. plus there is a good book off around the corner from the Super Potato at Ikebukuro.

Akihabara = rip off big time.

Of course it's expensive. Only idiots or tourists would even concidering shopping there. It's a tourist trap shop of the highest order.

I actually found a complete super metroid there for 4k yen. there are deals there, maybe not spectacular deals for us cheapos, but you can surely find something there.

Also, comparing trader and hard off to super potato is kind of out of place

Super Potato has always been expensive, be it in Akihabara or not. Consider it more like a museum than a place to shop.

Having said that, it is always worth checking out if you're willing to search high and low for bargains. I did get a good price on a clear Seaman edition Dreamcast in Akihabara back in 2009 and picked up a great condition junk AV Famicom last year in the Ikebukuro store for 900 yen, which turned out to work just fine.

Saturns and Dreamcasts were going for a reasonable price when I was there in 2015. Sure some things are expensive but it depends on the item.

Not really. Trader 3 and Super Potato are the exact same kind of store, comparing them is completely fair.

A lot has changed since 2015, it's much more expensive.

To be fair that's true. For instance the exchange rate with the £. Thanks Brexit. Much obliged.

The exchange rate is roughly what it's been (hovering around an average of 150 yen) for the past 10 years or so. The first time I went in 2009 it was something like 131 yen. The golden years of 2003-2004 and 200 yen or $2 to the pound are long gone.

Mandarake Shibuya has no games, yeah. Just a lot of action figures and hentai. Also, anime on laserdisc, bought some DBZ movies last time I was there. Mandarake in Akiba has plenty of games.

Yeah, Friends is good most of the time. I got a really cheap copy of The Goonies for MSX there.
