    Hello

I am about to embark on replacing the capacitors in my Japanese VA1 Mega Drive, PAL Mega Drives and my Pal Game Gears.

I want to avoid buying pre-made capacitor packs as they are not cost effective if you want to do a few systems.

Can anyone tell me if there is anything I need to avoid or look for when buying capacitors for these systems? Any special capacitor requirements in certain positions?

I am looking at Panasonic, Nichicon, and Rubycon on the Farnell website.

Currently my basket for the Game Gear contains.

    Panasonic KS series.
    Panasonic FR series.
    Panasonic M series.
    Panasonic KS series.
    Panasonic KA series.
    Panasonic GA series.
    Nichicon UVZ series.
    Rubycon ML series.

I have successfully matched diameter, height, farad and voltage.

If anyone with any experience can give me any tips, that would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

Been doing more research and read a few incidents of capacitors with low ESR causing issues with Mega Drives. Panasonic FR and Rubycon YXJ specifically.

Found positive comments about Panasonic FC and Rubycon ML.

I am determined to do these capacitor replacements but I find choosing and buying more difficult than the actual work.

What series capacitors have people successfully used and would recommend? Highest quality, longest lifespan, correct spec, etc.

Mega Drive Japanese VA1 uses the following

    1uf, 50v, x 6
    10uf, 16v, x 12
    47uf, 16v, x 8
    100uf, 10v, x 8
    100uf, 16v, x 1
    220uf, 10v, x 2
    220uf, 16v, x 1

Thinking I can skip the 220uf 10v and 100uf 10v capacitors and just buy more 16v ones.

    Many thanks

I will take a gamble on the Rubycon ML caps.

If anyone has knowledge on MD recaps, please share. Especially pertaining to the conflicting ESR information out on the web.

    Cheers

I've only ever used Nichicon for Game Gear and Nomad recaps, but that's just what I got from Digi-key. Never had any issues with them.
