Great release. I tried out a little bit today. When choosing option on main menu goes o multicolor screen with no text. Controller must be plugged into port 4 to use debug features. Triggers cycle through debug options. For time you select time in debug menu and you use dpad left or right to have time go forward or backward.

Though if you rewind time too far game glitches and ryo just keeps looping through all the lines about having to go home. Can't wait till there is a full guide on how to use the debug menu.

Not sure what debug dialogue does exactly.

Btw this is a beta of the english release so all dialogue and text is in english. Oddly though unless you hit the b button during dialogue no text is shown. I did read a recent article with suzuki and one of the developers talking about how in the beta you could pick up buildings or objects and throw them. Anyone know you can do that in this beta?

A very interesting release for sure, thanks a lot.
If this is indeed from one of the set R. sold before it was known they were duplicates, and the buyer paid for the discs assuming they were "genuine" and is STILL releasing them for free - then hats off! That is one hell of a present for the community, thank you very much!

I hope that someday I will be able to do the same with one or two certain games I set my eyes on :) To me, games are meant to be played, not to be tucked away in some closet. (to clarify: that is simply MY OWN opinion, and may conflict with those of others)

Really? Really? Complaining about a free shenmue beta?

It could be fucking 56K dialup and I would be grateful.

Some people need to look at reality and not about their personal
    pampered view.

You probably have a problematic connection. Those links are goods, reliables and fast.

Thanks to Shendream for your great work.

Evangelion, I forgot to mention your name :)
You also helped me a lot ( with techniques etc.....) thanks.
I think it would be great if you share CDI release of this beta ( with the two audio tracks ), what do you think about it ? Many people prefer DiscJuggler format.

We had no luck with Ecco 2 beta but this time it's good.

Links all worked fine for me. I gave the first disc a spin last night. As far as the normal game goes it's the same as the US release pretty much along with the awful voices. What is interesting is the ability to enter some "beta" areas and run wild. I say "beta" because with file hacking you can actually enter real beta areas with place holders and different map layouts. These areas could well be accessable in this release if we knew the codes. It's also a bit strange that the default codes found when pressing buttons on the controller don't seem to do anything. These must have some meaning?

I think his point is that this a beta with debug options of a major game and there is complaints about download speed when the person who had this had the decency to dump it when they could of just hoarded it and sold it off. It was fast for me when I downloaded it, but that was because it was before news fully broke out, just try during dead hours if its too slow.

Just found out about this from Shenmue Dojo, damn, I guess I missed out on the news when it happened here. Thanks so much for releasing a beta of my favorite game in the universe!

This should blow Shenmue modding right through the roof!

Man, my gratitude can not be expressed with words! ^^

I am guessing FamilyGuy helped make it selfbooting is that correct?

Wow awesome release! Thank you so much, I cant wait to try this!

I'm about to move to my own home in a few days, this will be the first thing I'll play in my new home ^^

So far for those of you who played this, this is similar to the final relase+debug menus, right?

Any real Coke cans, tshirt Ryu or bicycle riding by any chance? :D

offtopic: since this thread caught the attention of lots of Shenmue fans, I've asked this before but has any attempt been made at creating an undub Shenmue Chapter 1 (english text+japanese voices) ?

I can say there is no Coca Cola cans or Sprite like in the Whats Shenmue disc. Not sure about the bicycle, I have asked about it over at the Dojo, so maybe we can get some answers, but this is 98% the same as the finished US game.

There are of course some differences from the final, but not a gross amount.

About an undub, I think it needs to be done. I do prefer the horrible English voices, becuase that is how I was introduced to the series back in 2000. I guess it is a continuity thing for me, but since Smith made a full English speech version of part 2, I think there should be a Japanese voiced version with English subtitles to make it feel more authentic.

The question was asked over at Shenmue Dojo, so I think it is only a matter of time before someone picks this up as their next project.
