Got my hands on an Infinium Labs Phantom and I'm trying to get it up and running. I plugged it in, turned on the power, and no dice. It won't even turn on. I've opened it up and everything seems to check out. Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you check to make sure you had a power supply with the correct voltage, etc?

The power supply is in the unit, I just got a power cord off of my desktop. The system takes 115 and my cord is for 125 but since the power brick is already in the unit I figured it wouldn't matter.

Okay, then I have no idea :D Might be worth showing some photos of the board or something.

By the way, the hard drive is underneath the graphics card. My suspicion is that either the on button isn't working or the power supply is shot. I know next to nothing about power supplies though so if that is indeed the problem I would need help fixing it.

Phantom- the console that never was.
Would you share how you got the system ?

Oh and that looks like a standard ATX style PSU. If this one is broken (It's quite likely that it is), you can get a generic 300W-400W PSU for 15$-20$.

I hope you get it running.

Actually I was just looking around Ebay for some unreleased games on the cheap (I was mainly searching for a Titan AE demo for the Playstation) and I found a listing for this console. It was only 650 so I picked it up! The seller said he had a couple of them in storage and was looking to get back as much of the 29,000 dollar production cost as he could.

Nice, I still want one. Neat piece of history, and despite the fact it didn't come out, ahead of its time in a lot of ways.

Yep looks like an early ATX connector, test with another power supply, also you can use a jumper to bypass the power button and wires and just use a jumper where the wires from the power button are connected to.

Interestingly, 2 of the three component ports aren't hooked up to anything, and none of the audio ports on the right are hooked up to anything. My guess is they never got around to putting a sound card in this thing.

Well, I have confirmed that the psu is dead. I have gotten the fans spinning but still working on getting it up and running. Planning on replacing the psu later this week.

If you can, image the HDD before powering it on. The contents may change after power up.

I did get mine powered, minus the HDD. Interestingly, it seems the phantom has a ROL, like the box 360. D:\Utils\blink\Infinium seems to contain the source code and schematics for the ROL.

I have console #3. The ROL board has a serial number of 11. Some developer notes left on the machine indicate there may have been at least 12 of these things made.

It looks like they routed the motherboard sound out over the red and blue component video plugs. The green plug is not connected. Unfortunately they are rather poorly soldered to the motherboard, so further disassembly will be complicated.

Did yours have an airflow duct made out of a pepsi 24 pack box?

Wow, that is wild I didn't know any hardware came of that. Did they ever finish/start an interface?

That's strange, because I'm pretty sure that the nVidia MCP-T in the motherboard photo supports 5.1 audio. Is that Toslink socket wired up?

I was always under the impression it required a network connection to Infiniums server? At least reading back on some articles it would seem that way. Could be wrong though and maybe a menu is at least accessible :). Cool find for those who have one.

Someone needs to find the controller accessory they made.

It's a very nice looking unit, I'll certainly give it that. Hopefully you can find another PSU.
