Russian version... ? I think it is some "custom/modded" release like CRASH BANDICOOT 2 in RUSSIAN!!! LOL
Is this the same build that screen shots were shown a while ago? If there's doubt about its origins I'm sure there's ways of verifying the date of its contents against that of the retail game (although that might be difficult I the game has in fact been modded). Im curious, why (and how) would a beta end up in the hands of Russian modders to translate as opposed to a retail copy? Was the game perhaps going to recieve localisation in Russia? Interestingly if you look at the comparison photos Abe stands in the same place as final even though the background appears to be beta with differences. :/ Has anyone ever looked through the disc contents of the retail game to see if beta material was left over?
Only scenario I can come up with is that piraters got hold of an early copy and it was distributed in Russia, and one day a hacker/group wanted to translate the game to Russian so they took out their disc which they never knew was an earlier version and worked on it. The translation then didn't get finished but an early version was released. Seems kinda likely..
What's curious to me is if you look at the comparison pics: Abe stands on final ledges even though the backgrounds appear beta. Has anyone ever been aware of left over beta backgrounds on the final discs? Or ever tried looking? It wouldn't be the first time a Playstation beta was leaked and circulated to pirates in the 90s, although I never understood how it happens in extreme cases like this. :/
I will quickly explain this to you guys as I am an Oddworld collector and own this beta and a very rare early beta which only has disk 1. Russia does not and has never had a PSX market, No games were ever released by Sony to Russia. All games released or bought in Russia are copies and pirated. What has happened is Russia some how attained copies of Abe Exoddus beta's they were then dubbed and translated in Russia for the Russian to use and play. If you can tell all the character voices sound the exact same as one Russian guy has spoken over the original voices for all these versions. Russia has released this beta above and a final version that was dubbed and translated later on. The question is what happened to the original Beta/Prototype that was English ?. A lot of Russians claim that the game get completely redone in Russia so its not really a beta its there version of the game edited by developers and they had the wrong codes so the animations and screens were different. However ! I believe it is a translated beta as I have attained an Original Earlier beta to the one seen here, and it has not been dubbed or translated it is still in English PAL. The version I have is so early it only has disk 1 and there are a lot of differences and bugs ! I bought this beta from Russia but it wasn't dubbed or translated and looks like an original beta as it has coding on the disk. So the question is: Do you think Russia have redone the game themselves and have changed things due to error of programming eg. Wrong Animations, Missing Objects, Different Screens ? or Do you think Russia have attained Beta's and have translated it too Russian language and dubbing ? No one will ever know but me attining a English Original early beta from Russia makes me think did they attain beta's and translate them ??? Thanks ADBXT93
I just got a little evidence this is a late beta that Russia had acquired and proof this is not a bad Russian remake or mod, I found out when you finish the game and you kill all the mudokons instead of having invincibility you get unlimited grenades this screen was made by oddworld and was intended to be in the game, this is infact a genuine beta aspect that was initially added into the game. Here is a video by sgabbit showing the screen at the end. So i conclude even though the game is russian dubbed it has more proof towards the fact it is a beta edition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TJ9z-pfhdI Thanks Adbxt
