This is very much incorrect information. All DC units will require a system disc to play GD-Rs and none (aside from the actual dev boxes) are region free unless a mod chip has been installed. In the early days Sega *did* produce some Japanese styled systems (clear jewel instead of opaque, water cooling pipes) with American boards inside which were sent to devs for use in testing US coded games before the final US hardware was ready but there was never a system that was "like the debug PSX." And as was said, nearly all DCs can run CD-Rs stock, which was one of the mail killers of the system. You could pirate games without needing a mod chip. -hl718
Lol the anthem of the assembler forums. I am pretty sure they do; And 200 systems!?!? That is a-freaking-lot.
That's what I meant. I know retail DCs can run CDRs stock, but the QA had something extra, it was region free as Assembler mentioned.
I'm interested in both, hopefully i'll have something more than lint in my pockets when your ready, trade ya a beta copy of a dreamcast emulator for one you can play crazy taxi a bit buggily and debug katana demos hehe
I'm also interested in a Dreamcast Q+A unit. I wrote Assembler emails + Forum PM in the past but never got a reply. Would be nice to hear something from you regarding a DC Q+A unit soon.
