Anything out there yet? Google isn't turning up much related aside from apparently old devkits. Unreleased games, protos, or maybe even blank UMDs? With its lack of bootlegs I'd that call the grail of PSP. Short of a burner at least. There we're talking serious guarded internal Sony material.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as a blank UMD, as there wasn't writeable disks (apart from unpressed disks, but that doesnt count :p). Protos have appeared here quite a few times. Unreleased games not so much. Dev kits can use DVDrs, a few of which have been sold here.

Ah, I see some interesting PSP discussions here ;)

I'm not a huge collector on this system, but had the occasion to found some cool UMDs in the past. Here's for exemple a picture of one of them, a google search never helped me to find more infos about it, so maybe it was unreleased... or maybe the titles changed before the retail date..

    UMD SCAN HERE

All I know is that kind of Pre-Prod umds are used for preview/review purposes, and send to specialised press or websites.
Any other infos are very welcome about this title please!

As said, there is no UMD burner or blank umds.

Developers use DVDs when testing their games out (as the kits have a DVD drive). When they need a UMD test they have to send a build to sony for pressing onto UMDs. Not all games do this but a few do from time to time to verify their load times to make sure it's not worse on UMD (since dvd drive on kits is faster then the UMD drive), along with making promotional builds of games.

I know because I've worked on 2 PSP games. =P

@unclejun : sure, the scan is from my own disc, I collect the pre prods ;)
I've seen your interest and comparison on Killzone preview builds, it was a really cool article, really enjoyed it!
To answer you, yeah I played it a bit. Nothing very surprising.. the game is well advanced and maybe close to a final build, like all the pre-prods sent to the press. The problem is.. I never seen this game in a shop, or on internet lol. So it could be a cancelled project, I don't know.

@subbie : really you worked on two? I'm curious tell me the studio i'll search the games ;) I also got some of these DVD test from Capcom, for a Monster Hunter sample version.

Are there any company logos or names shown in the game?
What kind of game is it?

The type of game is hard to find lol.
It's a bit like animal crossing, but with mini-games or items to collect here and there, in a 3D environment..

Here are some screenshots, maybe some of you can recognize a renamed project or something? In the actual state of this UMD, it's more than a demo/technical demo, as you can read in the monkey's dialog:

Seems licenced by Sony Europe, dated from 2006:

    Dev by SUMO Digital:

Super wierd monkey with a cap ask you for a nickname to play, and then present you the game with a bit of blabla
    [IMG]

Then you're free and can explore a little village:

Then.. well you're free. You can do some little missions, like collecting feathers, or a musical-memory game with these fat blue things:

    That's all for today :)
Now, I don't understand why a magazine or website never commented a bit this game. The UMD was pressed and distributed to many guys for sure.. so why?

    Not really lol.
More than an open world, a little village where you can speak with other monkeys or do some mini-games. I haven't played it for hours, maybe there is something else after completing all the littles quests..

Hmm, no dump for the moment i'm sorry.
But i'm planning to open a little video website/channel in the future, you'll find there more infos about some lost UMDs like this one.

But if you're really searching this precise title, i would advice you to keep an eye on ebay. I already seen someone who sold the exact same disc, in a big lot of UMDs + console. It's not as rare as a proto, and was pressed by sony for the european press.

Well on the topic of prototypes, there was an old production copy of LocoRoco 2 leaked a while back that featured a developer debug menu among other things.

Asking people to dump things just turns them off from ever doing it. So don't ask, they usually say if they plan on dumping it.

Since we are on the discussion....

Can someone explain that revision of xmb? firmware revision? anything about it would be nice :)

I've heard many things regarding it... "It was ran via PC" or "Early Beta PSP Firmware on Prototype Devkits".... I'd just rather have facts regarding it.

Well.. this capture is very old at least. The game shown here was the beta name of Coded Arms, released in store in middle 2005... But it's cool that they changed the icon's styles, "Games" one look like a microwave oven.

My friend who worked for game magazin have a box with about 100+ of these beta/preview/review/pre/NFR games. Most of them are same like final, but few of them are in early stage. I have few of them, too. Good example is Wipout Pulse which you can find in 3 or 4 different versions.
