Guys, Does anyone know if the PSP version of Boulder Dash Rocks has ever appeared anywhere? Also, why was it cancelled? It's really odd - there is box art and in-game screenshots all over the internet (the box art is used on the game's Wikipedia page), even though the NDS version was the only one released. If anyone knows anything, let me know! Thanks, Paul
I'd put money on someone having a UMD of this game, many games were 99% done then scrapped with regards to PSP. Some were merged into the packs we know as the PSN Power Pack etc. http://www.amazon.co.uk/505-Games-Playwize-Poker-Casino/dp/B000K83WHK For sure they exist in a test console somewhere in DVD/UMD format.
The only other PSP game I know that was pretty much complete but canned was the port of Puzzle Quest 2. Apparently there was a big sound glitch and the sound engineer left before it was discovered.
Are you sure it was cancelled? It is for sale here: http://www.bol.com/nl/p/boulder-dash-rocks/1004004011019986/
I don't foresee them having the stock, until we see a physical one (not digital cover online) we know it was pulled.
Island of minno was also a finished game that never went to the shops. There are some copies in the world, I bought one from a nice guy from assembler games. About boulder dash, as ShovelThumb says, there might me some copies somewhere and I hope someone will give us more information !!
I was under the impression that Minno was a tech demo and never intended to be developed into a full game.
Indeed, from my own experience of the game you are running around the town, do some mini games then you can't proceed much further.
I didn't played it a lot. I was thinking that the game was full. But thanks for the info. I guess we all have the same version "0.01".
Guys, I did the simple thing and emailed First Star Software (the owners of the Boulder Dash trademark), here is what they had to say... Hi Paul, Boulder Dash-ROCKS! was indeed completed for the PSP; but, our development partners at that time, for that Boulder Dash sequel, encountered financial difficulties; and, unfortunately, the game was never released on that platform. On a more positive note, we JUST, this morning, released Boulder Dash-30th Anniversary on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tapstargames.boulderdash30 It is also available for iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/tapstar-interactive-inc./id865484227 Thank you for your very kind words, I hope you enjoy the latest game in the series, Dianne So, proof if needed that it was never released. But... 'indeed completed' - So it exists! As First Star Software still appear to be going strong, I guess there is little chance of it showing up somewhere, but fingers crossed for the future! Cheers, Paul
Do you think I should reply to them and ask for a build or the source code as PSP is no longer a viable platform, or shall I leave them be? I highly doubt they will email me the ISO, anyway!
More info... The developer was 10TACLE Studios AG - from IGN... 10TACLE Studios AG was a developer and publisher of interactive entertainment media, headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany. The company also operates studios in Hannover (Germany), Bratislava (Slowakia), Charleroi (Belgium), Singapore (Asia), and London (UK). On August 6, 2008, the company announced its insolvency and is no longer in business. Website:http://www.10tacle.com/ Address:10TACLE Studios AG Goebelstr. 21 64293 Darmstadt / Germany Phone:+49 6151 39738 >Boulder Dash -- Rocks! NDS Import only >Boulder Dash -- Rocks! PSP Import only So, from the email reply it looks like the comment about 'financial difficulties' was correct, as is the time frame according to when IGN says they entered insolvancy... Oddly, they are also listed as having done the NDS version, so maybe the PSP version is not finished, as the NDS version made it to release, so no idea why the PSP version did not (I had figured it was pulled as PSP market was not suitable for a UMD version of the game). First Star Software could have put it on PSN if it was finished and they did not want a physical release? Who knows someone who used to work at 10TACLE Studios AG, then?
You can try to ask them ! Who knows what can append. But I don't think that the woman who answer you had access to builts. She may be able to give you a contact. Who knows ! Keep us updated ! Thanks !
Yeah, I'm not sure why they didn't self-publish it on PSN unless the publisher actually owned the game.
Sorry to bump an ancient thread... a umd for this was recently sold on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Boulder-Dash-Rocks-Pre-Production-RARE/332865529777
