Page 354 of the P905i user manual and page 141 of the P-07A user manual says that any deleted i-αppli programs will NOT be restored when the phone is initialized/reset.

Initializing these phones does not delete the pre-installed i-αppli programs (in this case, the games) but if the previous owner of the phone deleted these games on their own, then they are lost.

Hey, apologies for the delay on this, but I finally got around to uploading the second archive with the older version of JDK that i-appli Tool needs to work.

I can't seem to edit my original post about this, so here's the link to that. (JDK for iappliTool) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VuS1IfIMIvyHcbzAovIvqH6LHFSK5kTd/view?usp=sharing

Actually, how about I make the entire folder sharable and then people can check back if I upload new things to it.
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-J78jBbC9ApQlBzUTdnNmdIV2s?usp=sharing
I've also put the archive of free i-appli games i shared a while back in here, and some other stuff too.

I have tried really hard to get in touch with anyone in Japan who might be willing to help acquire at least some of the Square Enix mobile games, but nobody is available or willing.

My research indicates that Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode and FFVII Snowboarding are downloaded in full when purchased, and not like Before Crisis where most of the content is only temporarily downloaded during play. But even with all this knowledge, I am no closer to my goal. What this means is that these games will be permanently lost soon. I don't trust that Square Enix will archive these ancient, mobile games.

I thought you were only interested in the FF7 games...?

The FF7 games are my primary interest, but say if somebody were able to download the FF7 games for me to their cell phone, I would also encourage them to download other Square Enix mobile games while they're at it. =)

We gotta be pretty thorough with our preservation efforts rather than just focusing on the games we like anyway. Leave no stone unturned, no game unsaved.

(I just wish there was more I could do.)

Quoting myself for the people who haven't seen that cable, I found a PS2 game that supports it:
    http://www.genki.co.jp/product/玉繭物語2-~滅びの蟲~
    https://k-tai.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/article/news_toppage/5552.html
    https://store.playstation.com/ja-jp/product/JP0128-NPJD00089_00-0000000000000000
Haven't tried to play the PS2 game yet, but it has the imode.irx drivers on the disc, though the official webpage states that the i-mode service is terminated.
Weirdly enough, the PAL release of the game "Jade Cocoon 2" also has the imode.irx drivers....

Some screens from the imode game, from the k-tai.watch.impress.co.jp page:

Another Genki game with imode support:

A full playthrough video of Seiken Densetsu Mobile I found on Nicovideo.
I think it's the Docomo edition as the music is apparently not from an FM sound generator.

It appears the threads in this imageboard archive are just for discussing the games only. A lot of these links are indeed dead, as would be the instructions for obtaining these games legitimately.

Still, since these discussion threads are back from when these games were active, it paints an interesting picture about how these games played and the culture surrounding them. I think that's still worth something.

The mobile game scene from last decade is dead these days. Even most Western mobile platforms like BREW and ExEn disappeared silently without any signs of preservation (in the case of ExEn, at least its Crash Bandicoot game got documented). J2ME is the only old platform where some games may be preservable at this point.

It would be great if people could preserve at least a few demos of some elusive games that didn't get a Western or Chinese/Taiwanese release, like the Cerberus game someone pointed out somewhere in this thread.

I found this huge wiki list of BREW games available on Japanese phones, a database of information not downloads.
    http://www.wikihouse.com/brew/index.php?FrontPage
    eg for a specific phone

Anyway, I'm here because I'm trying to get hold of the 7 games made by MITCHELL CORPORATION (& METRO-JAPAN) for EZweb phones.
    https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ミッチェル_(ゲーム会社)#Ezwebのみ対応

I'm happy buying old Japanese phones if there's a way to get these games off and preserved.

Looking into the .SB1 files, they are encrypted (we knew this) but apparently it is tied to the SD card rather than the Phone (I think this info is new to this thread).

    http://lists.tlug.jp/ML/1309/msg00013.html
    https://web.archive.org/web/20080216175739/http://ymo.269g.net/article/3882239.html

So it should be possible to:
    1. copy Game from Phone to SD
    2. swap SD into a different (but compatible) Phone
    3. copy Game from SD to Phone
    4. play Game

    Can anybody confirm this?

If that is the case, we would need a full raw dump of the SD card including all partitions and unused area. In my experience storing secret data like keys and magic numbers is often done outside of the partitioned areas, which simple/naïve copies of the SD card would miss.

Thanks for digging those links up! Looks like you replied on romhacking.net as well?
I've seen about SD-MobileImpact before, which will apparently play television recordings that are also encrypted as SB1 files. Not sure it would help in this case.
I can do a full dump of the SD card when I'm back in Japan later this month, but I only have one docomo phone. Getting another (offline) one wouldn't be hard, though.

Disappointed that I only just found out about this one, which is a follow-up to the Famicom Knight Gundam trilogy...

*edit: A lot of these games required a monthly fee or connected to the server in some way in order to run, so I think there are going to be other obstacles to using apps on a different device, not just the encryption.
