That's fantastic news if they can get it working! I'm a huge Thief fan and everyone should give it a try, there's really nothing like it!

The guys over at ttlg could go nuts over this if it pans out. Great community website and people still churn out fan missions for this old game, in fact many surpass the original missions in quality and that's saying something.

yeah, and as far as i know (if it gets released, that is) would be the only port of ss2 in a console EVAR

I have never played thief tbh, but it looks GOOD

System Shock 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, if its a nearly complete port I'm going to cream.

Odds their playable since they only exist on a dev kit's HDD and not on GD-ROM discs?

No, the other way around. There are two problems with games on the Katana.

The first is that some developers used the system as a debug unit and while the game's assets were put on the hard drive, the file that runs everything (the "1st_read" binary) was loaded into memory directly through the SCSI interface.

The second is that some of the unreleased content out there was recovered and not actually on the drive in a usable format. Parts of the assets or 1st_read binary were overwritten by other content using the free space reallocated when the recovered content was originally deleted.

Games on a GD-R were fully functional since they contained the game assets along with the main binary.

It's simple. If there's no 1st_read.bin, the game IS NOT playable since that file is like any EXE in PC. And even if there is one, it could be corrupted

Hasn't this come up before? Apparently he brought the unit off Mark30001 and he used to be an active user on here a few years ago but has since sold off most if not all of his collection.
