Hi guys, since I did not see a thread. Then I am going to make a "call in" thread to the guys and gals. As a check in for people being affected by "Sandy". So you can say "yup I am alive and so forth". So I hope you are all alright.

To the moderators, if there is a "check in thread" already for the people. Then delete this thread and give me a PM.

Still alive. Lost power twice so far, but we haven't been hit by the main part of the storm yet.

Lights are flickering a bit at the moment but thankfully no power lost yet. Oddly enough, some neighbors have been out of power since earlier today. I guess if anything is gonna happen, it will be in the next few hours.

Pennsylvania got hit pretty bad, but I think New York City, New Jersey, and the rest of the mid-Atlantic coast (from Virginia to southern New England) got the worst of it.

We were getting 60 mph winds here, though. Fun stuff if you're prepared for it. Not the greatest thing to be outside in, though. ;)

I remember a few years back someone posted a story about some guy's entire collection being destroyed.

We have no word from ASSEMbler yet, but as he seems to get the worst of luck at the best of times and now he is in the eye of the storm -_-

It is also a shame America is bankrupt. Hurricane Katrina hit years ago and AFAIK the area is still a wreck. The east coast will probably be ruined for some time.

I just saw this on the news. A massive fire broke out and an explosion. No idea where hough since the sound was down and I was watching from the kitchen.

Somehow, the worst parts of the storm seem to have avoided me. It is still lingering to the south and west, so I dont think I am totally in the clear yet, but it is bright and sunny right now.

Glad to hear from those who have reported so far. Still no news from Assembler, though. Anyone?

I survived. I'm in New England and we lost power for about 36 hours. It just got restored today. Lots of big, tall trees came down in the winds. Tons of downed power lines everywhere in my town.

I think this is not going to happen. In contrast to Louisiana, the northeast is a very visible part of the country. Here's what I mean:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeast_megalopolis
Basically, more influential politicians and businessmen live all around the Washington-New York corridor than anywhere else, and there is a huge population density. In large part, the centers of political and financial power are here, major chunks of the US population live here, and that will all help to get resources put to work, money spent to repair, people not "forgetting", and politicians wanting to make "hay" over fixing the northeast to increase their popularity and political capital. As bad as it sounds, I think it was very easy for politicians and other important players in the US to just forget about Katrina and the destruction it left because they didn't experience it first hand, it wasn't going to give them substantial political capital to go out of their way to help (although of course not doing anything has its own cost if one appears insensitive, cue Kanye West "George Bush doesn't like black people."), and it happened in a seemingly far off area (hundreds of miles) relative to the Washington-NY corridor where the "influential" people in gov and the economy live.

Checking in. Made it through intact, didn't even loose power.

Hmmm.... disconcerting that ASSEMbler hasn't checked in yet.
