    You have to think about what they would achieve by saying "yes" or "no". They don't stand to profit from this nor is this tied into anything they're currently working on. Getting those involved in legal trouble would only tarnish their respective brands. It's history. They're leaving it be.

    I wouldn't say Nintendo backstabbed Sony. Sony was going to rip Nintendo off for all the profit anyway.

    I really hope it ends up in a collection so it can be seen by the world, akin to the original hand-build Atari 2600 prototype "Stella".

    Why don't they use the self-check menu?

    They are. The CD-ROM checks says NG. And I'm pretty sure they're using it for testing fixes.

    NG=? No good? No ground?

    No Game?

    CD-ROM tests cannot be run when there is no disc?

    I'm thinking he means with the Move and games like Playstation All Stars? That would be my guess.

    tbh,i feel like sony is only successful just because they spend 90% of their earnings on their ad campaign instead of making quality games (The Order:1886 and Driveclub anybody)

    You know what, I'd really like to agree with you. Because big corporations like sony are supposed to bad and all that, but they've done some really good decisions and some really good games. So I can't agree with you.
    But even if it's like you say and they're only successful because of PR - that's still nowhere near to "ripping off nintendo".

    Yeah, that has absolutely nothing to do with Nintendo. Either way, we should probably keep this on topic.

    Really happy it turned on and everything. Incredible piece of history there.

    I don't think anyone expected this to have any additional powerful chips. This was Nintendo SNES PlayStation, the SuperDisc format. the earliest form of SNES CD, circa 1988-1991. It wasn't the Nintendo Disc format which was announced much later (1992-1993) with a 32-bit processor.

    Yep.

    I'm hoping they get the drive working and out pops a CD they didn't know was left in there.

    Engadget pictures shows that they did open the drive up and there was nothing inside.

    So am I correct in saying that the CD-ROM machinery itself is not detected by the BIOS, or is it simply not able to detect CDs? Would a replacement laser work, assuming a replacement could be isolated?
