    About
What is the Retro Fighters Next Gen Dreamcast Controller?

The Next Gen Sega Dreamcast Controller by Retro Fighters is a modern take on the original Dreamcast controller. We wanted to remake the Dreamcast controller with next generation features and designs!

Retro Fighters Next Gen Dreamcast Features:

We wanted to make a new ergonomic controller for one of our favorite consoles of all time, the Sega Dreamcast! We changed some things to make the Dreamcast controller more ergonomic and comfortable in design. The controller features a more modern two handle grip.

The shape of the controller is very comfortable and fits naturally in both hands with easy access to all the buttons.

We added NEW additional shoulder buttons (perfect for fighting games) and triggers, so you can adapt controls according to the game you are playing.

Very responsive and comfortable larger sized D-pad. We also added an ultra fast Turbo function to help get you to the next level!

Full functionality of the Visual Memory Units (VMUs) and Vibration Packs (Jump Packs).

Updated and modern analog stick, comfortable grip and design, not overly sensitive, just the right amount of responsiveness.

No more cords in your way, controller cord no longer goes out the bottom, but now goes out the top.

Sit back and enjoy gaming at a distance with an extra long 10 foot cord!

Featuring original color scheme white/gray color (top white / bottom gray shell)

Inner Workings (PCBA & Controller Port Manufacturing)

To build the Dreamcast controller we had to build the controller from the ground up. This took a lot of development time and planning. There were no existing Dreamcast controller memory ports available in any factories or any that we found so we had to build our own ports and software. To get to the prototype stage where we are at now has taken about 18 months of development & research.

Why is the MSRP higher than the N64 version?

When starting this project, we looked at the existing gaming market searching from factory to factory to see if there existed any specific parts/components that we needed for Dreamcast. We researched for 6 months and were not able to find the components we needed.

Our conclusion was that there were no longer any parts suppliers that had the necessary software and hardware needed for a new Dreamcast controller. In order to move forward we at Retro Fighters decided to build our own components, VMU ports and software in house.

This extra costs of research, development and high MOQ of parts is quite costly. To get to the prototype stage of the Dreamcast alone costs 10's of thousands of dollars and over 18 months of research and development to get to this point. We are keeping the MSRP as low as we can and delivering nothing but the best Dreamcast controller!

    Why Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a great platform to connect with other people who have similar interests. In our case we love retro gaming and we need your help in finishing this project. We are also a new gaming company and need help with the additional resources to finish the molding process. Kickstarter allows us to reach out to other gamers and help us create a new controller for the great community of retro gamers!

We need help completing this project both with the MOQ of manufacturing the parts, but also completing the molding process.

    Risks and challenges

What would a right analogue stick be used for? No DC games supported one, and it probably wouldn't be recognized as "twin sticks" for virtual on or outtrigger.

The real useful feature would've been wireless.
