Was this an unreleased game? I can't remember, it seems like there were 100 of Mortal Kombat games released. Maybe they were all for the SNES, Genesis, etc...

I did a quick search after posting the message, and found there were a lot of people suprised to hear that it existed.

From what I've read this was the worst port.. Maybe this is why Sony initially pushed 3D games for the PSX, because it couldn't compete as well at 2D.

No, the worst port awards belong to GameBoy/GameGear/etc. The PSX port is pretty solid although the loading times are not handled very well. It could have been better but it stands inline with the 32X port and beyond in some ways. Behind though simply because of loading times.

That makes sense. Most gameboy ports I've seen looks like they were rushed. I remember NFL Blitz on the Gameboy Color, that was absolutely horrid.

One of the reviews I read said that Shang Tsung could only transform into the character being fought. The limited VRAM and RAM probably prevented loading all of the character sprites.

What was the best version? The Saturn or the 32x would seem to have had the potential of being the best versions, but that depends on the quality of the porting effort also.

The PS1 version of MKTrilogy had in-battle loading when Shang Tsung transformed, but this could be turned off in the options menu. I'm not sure how the character works when that opition's turned off.

You could select two other characters to morph into, else if you choose the other option the game would pause for about five seconds while the character loaded.

Because this isn't about warezing, it's about a rare no longer sold game perhaps? That would be my guess. That and it's not a publically viewable forum.
