Hi DSwizzy, I've studied the Xak series pretty close, even ran a website for the series for a few years called XyZ and as far as I've seen the only port to MS-Dos was the Korean version. The only other versions to my knowledge are PC-98 (original version) and the PC-Engine Super CD Rom ^2 verison, which was translated into English. I've got actual copies of these if there is any extra information you would like to know about them.

I heard some mentions of Wonder Wander and Frane above. Those are pretty great games, Wonder Wander being the better one. Still hoping for a possible translation for that one. I own actual copies of these, as well as a neat exe-create game called Vampire Hurts.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but Rosenkreuz Stilette is pretty nice and has a translation patch for commercial and download copies of the game.

Um, i think that's only thing I've wanted to ask is all (sorry) but i would like to also know is when did the Korean port was released? Was it after the PC-98 release or PC-Engine CD version? And do you think or know anyone who's interested in doing a port of the MS-DOS version anytime soon? Thank You for your time & reply :) it's been quite helpful in a way.

Not sure on the release date, but if you would like to research Xak or Sa-ku in Korean Hangul is: 샤크

Not too many sites out there that disucss it, but here was one site: http://nemo838.tistory.com/1983

On my files that I have for this version, I see the earliest date being around October, 1996. The Korean version's title screen "says 1993" but that might not be entirely accurate. I'm also not sure if this was an official port of the game from Microcabin or not.

The PC-9801 version was first, in 1993 and the following year, 1994 was the release of the PC-Engine Super CD version.

Also, I haven't played much of the Korean version, buy a friend of mine has and I believe I recall him saying that the Korean version removed the blood from the game, especially the first few scenes of the King and his army getting decimated and the princess getting beheaded by the demons.

    Hope this helps!

Actually the Korean version I've recently played had the blood & gore retained :) not sure what version your friend was playing lol. The only thing i can assume is that the MS-DOS 1996 release is probably a unofficial port since you've mentioned the copyright date of that being 1993 instead of '96.

    @Johnny

I'll just be frank, at best they are Cave Story quality, but usually they aren't. I've gotten some of them thru a Humble Bundle that just finished and they are all "meh" . I'm not saying they suck, but they really do feel "indie" meaning not triple AAA quality. ;)

Good ones include La Mulana and Vanguard Princess.

I prefer Japanese games because they don't usually try too hard to be realistic, which fails more often than not. They don't generally take themselves seriously either, and I like that.

I grew up on games like SMB, Tekken, Final Fantasy, Metroid and Dragon Quest so naturally I lean towards console Japanese franchises.

I know there is a Japanese version of Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind but from what I understand it is quite rare.

Hello, I'm new here. I found this list particularly interesting, it could be even better if you differentiated between japanese releases and japanese only releases. I noticed "iwatobi penguin rocky & hopper (masudaya)", please can you add some sources? I cannot find absolutely nothing about the pc release, only infos I can find are about the playstation version. thanks

I wouldn't define Ys Origin "doujin shite". It's a long time famous action rpg japanese series by Nihon Falcom. ;) But yeah, all the rest is basically doujin (or indie if you prefer).

Hello :) !! For the Game you search, in fact, it doesn't exist only on PC but also on Ps1 (http://www.gamefaqs.com/search?game=Iwatobi+Penguin%3A+Rocky+%D7+Hopper); there are even 2 Games which exists :) (http://psxdatacenter.com/ntsc-j_list.html and look in Japanese Games list......).

I think rod-wod talked about other Games but not Ys Origin (which is a great Game made by Falcom, which was very present on PC :)......).

Anyway, there won't be a lot of differences between Pc and Ps1 version (generally, those are only ports. With links I've given to you, you should have some ideas about these 2 Games :)......). Apparently, row_wod has the Game, so, it's him which will post the Game's front cover :)......

iwatobi penguin rocky & hopper (masudaya) Is a dejig lite puzzle piece game.
and i would think that it was only released in japan.the psx has 2 of its own iwatobi penguin games that are variety based and nothing to do with this game for the pc.

i will upload a cover soon

Just for curiosity, is the previous list all the japanese releases you found infos about or all the japanese releases you own retail box? If so that's an insanely large collection, congratulations!
