So far the way to have a modified BIOS was removing the original BIOS or soldering an EEPROM chip on the original chip, but now with DREAM BIOS REVOLUTION you will not have to solder anything just plug and play on the original chip.

Interesting idea, is this going to be an open source project that we can build ourselves?

could you create a more comprehensive report on detailing what the product actually is, installation instructions, flashing your custom bios, requirements, is soldering involved, etc? pictures of the board installed? i'd really like one of these

How do you deal with the heatshield/cover that go over the GPU/CPU?

Although it wasn't mentioned, if you look into the youtube link of the video, within the description there's a link where preorders can be made, it hasn't even entered into mass production. The creator wants to know how many preorders can accumulate before setting a price, then send paypal payment request. In the youtube link estimates that pricing would be 25 to 30 USD, most probably excluding shipping. I just hope this isn't a scam, maybe sending a few test samples to popular youtubers and websites could help dissipate the doubts.

    It is literally solderless.

It snaps into place over the existing chip. It is a pretty clever design.

    Here is more info.

    What is DUAL BIOS?
Dual bios is a modification that consists of the installation of a modified bios in the Sega Dreamcast, today there are many versions of customized BIOS, among them the REGION FREE and DREAMSHELL BOOTLOADER.

    What does this board do?
So far the way to have a modified BIOS was removing the original BIOS or soldering an EEPROM chip on the original chip, but now with DREAM BIOS REVOLUTION you will not have to solder anything just plug and play on the original chip. If you like the product register your email on the website and receive the purchase order once it is on sale. The sale price will be between 25 to 30 USD.

I mean, it would be just as hard to do the bios mod in the first place, there would be no point to build this yourself.

It's nice, but the target market is the people that can't do the soldering job in the first place.

I have the same question as @citrus3000psi
How to deal with the heat shield as cutting metal shield cover is much harder than desoldering something....at least to me....
    o_O

But it's really a nice idea. Hope some one will try it on Sega/MegaCD multi BIOS.

You shouldn't have to cut the heatshield, this looks like it won't be thicker than a few millimeters so it should fit under it fine.

It definitively wont fit under the heatshield. Clip is maybe 6mm, + PCB thickness + bios IC thickness.

Don't forget that there is a thick piece of stainless steel under the metal shield that acts like a heatstink. The height of the heat sink is right where the thermal pads are on the GPU/CPU. The clip is clearly quite a bit taller. 100% no way the the metal shield will fit, without cutting.

I doubt that. If you tear down the dreamcast, you will know it's really a tough challenge for fitting that.

Do remember the clip is going to fit over the original bios. So you have mostly the space between the PCB and shield, not top of the original bios and shield. The new bios chip is TSOP, so its much thinner.

But its still going to be close.

wow mods keep coming and coming. i dont think a space issue will happen. whats the point if avoid solder but have cutting?

definitely interested assuming i won't need to modify the metal shield for it.
