Hi folks, whilst i'm on my buying mission, anyone got a spare R4 or similar card lying around going really cheap? I've just been handed my first DS Lite so i'm learning what can be done with it. That card needs to be able to take the largest microSD or whatever type of cards going i.e. I think the term is SDHC compatible please. Many thanks, HamStar50
Define "really cheap"? If you dont want SDHC - you can get R4's that are compatible with Wood's firmware for like £2. if you want SDHC, a R4 compatible with the same firmware is about £9. However, there are about 243897243 R4 clones - most of which with little firmware support. You need to know what you are buying.
Do want SHDC compatibility for the larger cards really. Thing is, why is firmware related stuff important? or does that only apply to the likes of the DSi and newer models? I'm struggling to identify 1. a reliable store to purchase from and 2. an original one as oppossed to a clone. Any advice on the above points mucho appreciate (and a merry xmas to you)
Updates are the important part. I.e new game comes out and doesn't play, flash Cart software is updated to support it. A lot of the r4 clones have support for a little while, then just vanish. The original r4 has woods firmware, which is made by an independent guy, updates are fast and often. One of the r4 makers asked the guy to do the software for their card, which he does. This later card supports ds, dsi and 3ds and sdhc. Hope that clears up your questions
Honestly, your best bet would be to head over to a site like realhotstuff or shoptemp.. It would be seriously unwise to buy a used DS flash cartridge.
With you being in the UK you wont find any local sellers - as it's now illegal to sell them in the UK. I personally use http://www.dsr4.co.uk/ they ship out of hong kong and i've never had any issues with them.
