Awesome disc, hefty price. That being said, I highly recommend you to make a back-up of the contents (and no I'm not asking for a free give-a-way). Because GD-R's are prone to get bit rot sooner or later, especially a disc from 1998.

Am I missing something here? That's a lot of cash for a beta that all we can see of are screen shots from the intro but missing some post effects. How different is the actual game? Missing characters? Different looks to stages? Debug menu? Incomplete texture work? Information like that would really help in selling the disc.

Look a little closer, it's definitely different. In the first few seconds you can see the ground clipping in the beta.
Dude doesn't look at camera as it flies by
closeup up of eye rolls in beta
Mitsurugi's face isn't seen after the rice wall effect

I could go on, there's lots of minor differences going on here. Watch the two videos in snippets back to back, you'll start to see.

Definitely a cool beta, not sure if it's $1500 cool, but still very nice to see.

This disc is dated 23rd of JUNE, and the final version was released on 5th of AUGUST. So those final 20% are very small final touches, seeing they hardly took a month to fix.

No moderation exists on these forums anymore, so I'm just going to say it. We really need to move past the archaic idea that anything with the slightest differences are worth thousands of dollars. I always find extra hilarious when people that put such prices on things can't even front the shipping, as if you need to be paid any extra when it's already exorbitant enough.

If this proto were dumped it'd be barely downloaded by anyone and at most get people looking at the TCRF page just to see what the differences are and then dismissing it for the rest of their lives. It's not worth $1,500, not by a long shot.

This website is based in the USA which is a capitalist country so you can ask whatever price you want, disregard the criticism. If no one buys then lower it until it sells. Good luck! ;)

In my world, downloading an "unfinished" game, is indeed quite the opposite, of actually owning a Katana Gigabyte disc, with an "unifinished" game on it...trying to find a new owner...no matter the price...as there is always room for improvments and negotiation...

But I also wouldnt have started this thread with a "What YOU think this is worth ?", as I would be quite aware, about what I had in my hands...something, beeing a bit obscure...and thats why we are here. :)

Given that there are differences I'd say it's an okay price to negotiate with. I assume he aimed high to come down a bit lower.

    Personally I'd say it's worth around $1000

GDR's of games which aren't really any good usually go for a 2-300... so a major title like 'Soul Calibur' should command a lot more.

Either way, as pointed out, I don't think there should be a fixed price on anything. A person can ask for a million dollars for a broken used Donkey Kong 3 cart or they can ask for 50. At the end of the day, it's down to the buyer to make the purchase. Of course, it doesn't hurt to point out when something appears too expensive - if they're free to set their price, then others should be free to question it.

If only I had a time machine... I remember when protos of DC or GC games were practically given away here in the marketplace, looking at today's prices! 60 euros for Flintstones white label - and the seller had multiple copies. GC protos for about 30 dollars. Even the Dreamcast GDR's (esp. BuyAtari) used to just sit in the marketplace for months with no takers for 50-100 dollars.

If it were the source code I'd gladly pay the price. But for a proto build, I'll let others pay what they want.
