I got a debug board and locked HD 2nd hand and am attempting to make it more useful (XDK sticker says XM2 4039). It will not read anything I put in the (verified & working) DVD drive. I get the dirty or damaged error for any non-pressed DVD's and then it says I need to use the DVD playback kit for pressed Xbox games. I used the playback kit and got the same message.
Second issue is that it does not have a menu option for network settings.
If I drop in another HD it frags.
How can I use/modify this unit if it won't read anything and there's no network connectivity?
I dumped the EEPROM but Live Info cannot read it.

The burned discs - did you dev/debug sign them? It won't just load a homebrew disc

I am not familiar with the process of signing them. I installed the XDK setup on my PC but as previously noted, do not have any way to connect to the debug Xbox.

    No dice.
I burned a DVD-R and a CD-RW with the correct image. Neither one would boot from either a Samsung or Hitachi drive, either at startup or after reaching the menu.
What kind of menu is the debug Xbox expecting to see? I prepped an unlocked drive with the stock MS menu and it gave me an error 16, suggesting it is looking for a different menu.

Why doesn't it have network connectivity? Does it not have an ethernet port? I used to wire my debug directly to my Windows XP machine via ethernet and transfer data using Xbox Neighborhood.

It has a network port but no menu option for network settings.

After you installed a new harddrive, did you run a recovery disc?

Guess if you can't get a recovery disc working then maybe you have a live beta kit.

It will not accept another hard drive. The HD is locked to the debug system.

They can support up to 128gb drives only due to LBA48 restrictions of the debug bios and they don't have to be locked either. I replaced the stock 8gb in my debug unit and then ran the recovery disc.

You can enable retail signed xbe booting and what not by using files placed in the C and E partitions.

Look up “Hack-devkit-GueuX-V2'. More info here: https://www.s-config.com/original-xbox-debug-console/

They accept other harddrives just fine, if you run a recovery disc after installing it. In fact, you can swap HDDs from one dev unit to another, they all seem to have the same key.

Hackdevkit messes with things though, so beware, save files created without the hack wont be compatible.

It has one game save on it, ReVolt. I think that may confirm that it is a live beta kit.
