yes, you just can reload firmware.

RetroRepair too many panics. just believe me that hard to kill cart by firmware update because seems like jtag pins unactive until jtag chain not activated by low signal on tms pin. anyway, even if you short them while activity unlikely to damage cart, it is bad of course, but not deadly in most cases

I got my USB blaster today, and updated my firmware. Thank you for the video! I did run into one minor problem, I couldn't get Quartus II to detect it at first, but a gentle scrub with a dry toothbrush on the jtag connections fixed that right up.

So the USB Blaster that I see on eBay running ~US$6+ is the one I'd get if I'd want to update the FW on the EverDrive, correct?

8413: Is your connector soldered in, or do you have it held temporarily in place with tape or something? Does the EverDrive need to be powered up in the console when updating FW?

Do you have to use a USB Blaster? There are alot cheaper jtag programers. What's so special about the USB Blaster?

I'm assuming the ease of use of USB. That's why I'd get one.

8413: I see what you did, it's a great idea. With the JTAG cable, where does the "key" go? (The notched part on the cable, so to speak); if looking at the front of the EverDrive, does the notch go to the left or the right? With the pins soldered in like that, does it fit in the cartridge case alright?

    left.
The substrate doesn't break even if it makes a mistake in the direction of the cable.

    Yes.
The length of pin is 4.5mm.

When installing the Quartus II software, it lists a number of different "Families." Is there a specific one I can install, to save space, or I have to install all of them?

not need to install all of them, usually i install max2 and cyclone2 only. by the way, quartus 11 has buggy flasher, so need to install altera programmer aslo (or something like this, can't remember how is it called)

Either should be fine, the solder in ones, you dont have to solder in you can just hold it in the holes at an angle so it makes contact and flash that way. That's what I did on my genesis everdrive at least.

I figured that, I'm concerned that the solderless ones have to be snapped into place, and I don't want to do that of course.
