Next time I speak to Rich, I'll ask him. But yeah, I'd urge people not to pester him too much!
thanks retro if you can try..
let's hope something surfaces the net..
SSM actually had a pre-review (or should that just be preview?) copy of Fighting Force, though I remember hearing that Core significantly reworked Ninja between its cancelled Saturn version and what ended up being released for the PlayStation. Besides, wasn't the Saturn build nowhere near completion, or is that just another rumour from years ago we've yet to see the back of yet? If you want to see Fighting Force in action there is always the real time "rolling" two-level sampler included on Core's very own demo disc, but on the subject of Chill weren't there in the end two ever-so-slightly different test copies floating around? There are so many great Saturn games that never saw the light of day I believe may still be in the hands of collectors - whether more of us will get to see or play these remains to be seen...
I need to get in touch with Mark 'mac' Avory..but he isn't easy to find.
That is a video of the Saturn version of Fighting Force (rolling demo)
True, that's from a Core Design demo disc, but it is very early and still showed the old appearance of Hawk.
The almost released Fighting Force for the Sega Saturn does feature the same final designs of the PlayStation version.
I think there was a review on Megaforce of Fighting Force. There was some shots on mags of the Ninja for the saturn :
Man, that looks shit. No wonder it was never released.
For me it looks pretty good, and have a very close-like engine a la tomb raider II, something that proves Sony were lying in late '97
Mostly playability wouldn't be "the best" but graphically is a total kick ass.
The build of Fighting Force that SSM claimed to have was indeed very close to being final, and Ninja in its Saturn guise doesn't hold a candle (so to speak) against the later PS version, but that's because after its cancellation Core went back and significantly reworked the game for its new single intended platform. Would the original prototype have resembled its Saturn form on the PS as well? How come more of us don't ask about that, as there's probably more chance of finding PS code if the general rule of thumb can be followed with this example?...
well, but...there msut be over there a playable cd with fighting force, and another one with ninja, almost not about the first beta, wich was shown and graphically is very distinct to what was supposed to be seen finally on the second revision, whose pics are shown above..
are you guys telling those lighting effects, high resolution ( a la virtua fighter 2 totally...) and 3d scenarios aren't kick ass?? for the love of god!
If you mean those Ninja shots above, then yes. I think that looks a bloody mess. The characters are far too block like and the colours and textures used don't help either.
well, maybe that are preview pics that can seem really raw, but,, i think the dark colours are well, and those samurai-enemies look really good in my opinion...who knows..watching that in movement would be necessary to judge...
I think the actual prototype would look pretty good indeed.
but is confirmed there is one?
A magazine 'preview' proto? Not too likely. Something in the vault from someone @ Core; a possibility.
but i think it will be really hard to access to those vaults...and a lot more since core is out... am i right?
