Looks like Atari's making a comeback with a new console in the works:
So anyone gonna guess? My guess is possibly a game streaming machine for all their old stuff or a more robust "flashback" console that plays 7800 and earlier. I just don't see any love for the Jaguar coming from Atari, so guessing it will all be 7800 or earlier.
Given the wood grain it's got to be the earlier consoles. I'll guess an expandable game box for 7800 and earlier games, as in you purchase game packs in some form. Or they just throw all the games in the unit and call it a day.
E.T. 2 hype
I heard tell that this new Atari console's gonna be based on PC hardware.
Why is it only NOW we're getting clones that play 2600 games?
Why didn't hyperkin add in 5200 and 7800 support?
Why are we getting a new Atari Console? Who is even nostalgic for Atari Hardware?
They're clearly going to take on Microsoft and Sony. They'll fill the huge void in the market of consoles with the wood grain look.
As for hyperkin's new machine...I was surprised they didn't include 7800 at least. I mean, the 7800 plays most all 2600 carts so..wouldn't that be the most bang for your buck?
Perhaps it's because of the 5200's negative reputation is why Hyperkin's not making any 5200 clone console.
I doubt it's going to be limited to just old stuff. Look at the "dev" link at the bottom of the page:
"mailto:email@example.com?subject=I’m a developer and want to know more about your platform"
I see you're going to try your hands at the new platform Mairsil
Do find out what we're working with if you can. Without breaking NDA of course
I'll wait until Unreal support is announced before even thinking about it.
Those were good arcade ports though. I'd think time would be kinder to the 5200 than it has been. Lately I've been very interested in home ports of the 80s arcade classics.
Watch be an actual console with third and first party games on it.
If it's just a mishmash of all their old games onto a new "console" I'll be extremely dissapointed. Heck, if that is the case, I reckon that this thing wont sell all that well. It'll be cool for the Atari and retro collectors sure, but haven't there been clone systems that can play all of their games just fine, and even still, kids these days are more interested in pretty graphics than gameplay, and sadly 8bit games don't appeal to them anymore.
I think it's time to admit that the Atari of old is long since dead?
Guys, it's Atari so you know it's not going to amount to anything. Yes, there's a lot of nostalgia for the Atari of old but that company has long gone. Atari now is just brand name that anyone with enough cash could have bought.
New Spectrum(s, urgh why wont they stop remaking it) and a new "Atari"
Give us a new Amiga, or just a little sticker to put on things to claim that they are
Color me interested. Skeptical, but interested. I never was much of an Atari person. The only console I own from them is a 2600 and a barely play it. I have wanted to pick up a Jaguar, though.
Another Chinese made android device that will be clearance for $5 in two years.
Does anyone really remember Atari? This sounds like they saw the sales of the nes retro console and want a bite of the market.
There's no way to get around the licenses for the best games either, so you're going to get the same old games
they had on the last few plug and play devices.
I would be skeptical of the three second render as well. It's showing you absolutely nothing
while playing on nostalgia and emotion.
Comments are disabled on the video too. Very very sketchy.
The Flashbacks seem to do ok
We now also have the Retron 77 for playing Atari games in HD (or stretch-o-vision for the rest of us) AND a new Flashback that is ment to have 100 games on it, including Activision ones
about 10 will get play
