There has been a discovery of almost 1GB of assets from the cancelled Battlefront III, dating back to 2008 and being uncompiled. Link: www.mediafire.com/file/mw41qmwwtuddqek/BespinORG.rar

The issue is that these assets are blocked behind a 20-character password that no one, not even the uploader knows anymore. My attempts at cracking the password led nowhere, and as such I have come here to try my luck.

(As for validity, there are have been more assets using the same "org" RAR name, and those have been confirmed real (these got no password, feel free to get those):

Uploader told me it's 20 characters. He reinstalled Windows 10 but lost the txt with the password itself inside. The uploader is a trusted source, considering the other links in the original post which are safe.

Tell them to run Recuva and get the txt if its not overwritten by then
Use a separate machine to install the portable version to a flash drive and run it from the flash drive on the main system.

Recuva was unsuccessful back then and it's been quite some time since then. Only way is to find out the password itself.

How many years would it take to brute force a 20 character password? This smells like a hoax to me.

Well since you ask, the estimated time to bruteforce anything past a set amount of characters (lets assume alpha-numeric, with upper/lowercase, no symbols) becomes far too great to compute. See below from an article describing the issue. As you can see, with each one it skyrockets.

Now if you were, I dont know Google maybe, your resources will probably be more in the 10+ range, but again it's all dependent on just how complex it is. Assuming it was all numbers, easy. Letters? Easy if theyre all lowercase or uppercase, both makes it harder immediately. And then you have mixing them or adding symbols which immediately makes anything past 6 just unrealistic in any normal amount of time.

i suppose there's many people around these parts of the net that have an extra PC they can rig up and leave on for two months while it does the necessary cracking computation

I'm one of these people but 2 months isnt even close to the sheer time needed.

    Quoted from here https://security.stackexchange.com/...ll-8-character-passwords-in-an-offline-attack
    And quoted here https://www.reddit.com/r/theydidthemath/comments/2o1xhg/request_how_long_would_it_take_to_crack_10/
Again that's 100,000,000,000 passwords per second that would take 19.24 years

There's no hint on the password? Was it game related, did it have numbers or symbols in it? Surely the person would know a few more things about the password, given that they know it's 20 characters long. That's a pretty specific thing to remember imo.
I'm pretty sure this is a lost cause otherwise
