Thought there might be some MK fans here intersted in this. I'm still sorting through the files and so forth...

The source code to any UMK3 would be interesting for sure. I don't even think Midway has it anymore just like MK1 and 2. I think that's why the collections and XBLA seem to be emulated versions rather than actual ports. If that not it's just pure lazyness or penny pinching.

    The real question...does it compile?

And what state is the resulting exe in?

I've got the 3DO development environment up and running on a Windows machine under Basilisk II. I'm currently having a look at the files on the diskettes and I'll thow up an update on the status when there is something new to report.

Make images/backups of those floppies ASAP.

Old floppies don't always keep well over time.

    Very interesting indeed.

Looking forward to more updates on this. I wonder if it has any secret / never revealed stuff on it.

This is interesting. I wonder what happened to the source code then? Lost or thrown out? The ports are done by Digital Eclipse and seem pretty exact to the roms (the one on the psp midway collection is pretty nice).

This brings up the subject of preservation, just like film preservation. Maybe they didn't consider it valuable for the future. I wonder if even current developers are lax with keeping the archives of their projects.

The "ports" by Digital Eclipse seem "pretty exact" to the roms because they are ROMs and emulators. Infact it's very likely many of Digital Eclipse's releases blatently rip off MAME or MESS or many other open source emulators in part or perhaps even in full.

The only actual ports of MK, MK2, MK3, UMK3, were done within a year or two of the arcade release. Probably like many sloppy operations the source gets thrown out, misplaced, or hopefully stolen by someone that actually knows what it is. Better someone stole it than just getting thrown into the junk heap never to be seen again.

Personally I'd rather see a proper emulation of the original code when running a "classic" versus a port to a new system that doesn't behave in the same way.

I want the original, quirks and all! ;)

It would be really great to have this compiled in some way,as i have a testing station and a dev tower to check it out...but i dont have too many hopes that there is enough stuff there!

Anyway i am glad for just knowing that this stuff exists, thanks for sharing 3DOgod!! :icon_bigg

Someone mentions on anther forum you posted this on. that the music is missing fomr the assets you have. Is the source set up to simply play redbook music?

You didn't see me posting comments like "Don't bet on it..." in threads where people were asking you to release your M2 software, so don't do it to me.

    K, thanks.

I've actually given this some thought. I'm not really opposed to releasing the whole lot actually, although it would be nice to recoup some of my cost for it. I don't know, I'll think some more on it since there does seem to be some interest in this.
