I haven't read anything about these IDE GD-ROM replacement boards by XCKDIY. Is anyone using either of them? It looks like they just require a Dreamshell bios chip. Definitely a clean and inexpensive route to a HDD DC if they work as great as they look.

    IDE board only

    IDE/CF combo board

It's just a refinement of the g1 ata ozone released years ago.

I have something in dev along these lines too, but includes the bios as well.

Any idea if these would work with original run (VA0) Japanese DCs? I have one with a dead drive which could do with a new life...

    The price is definitely attractive!

I'd like to see the HD secured a little better than just via the IDE port though.

This is modified using DreamShell RC4 kernel to do, compatibility and RC4 is the same, but this is also very convenient and cheap

The big question is how far along has Dreamshell compatibility progressed?

I have an SD adapter I picked up when they first appeared and remember it wasn't compatible with a fair amount of games... has much changed over the years since?

Well the G1-ata mod is clearly faster than the sd-card adapter, I guess it's more compatible too but I don't know that for sure.

I believe a lot of games work. The SD card adapter was just too slow.

But I would like someone who has tried it a lot to chime in

wow thats an amazing piece of hardware and the prize is amazing compared to G1-ata Mod!
Anyone managed to order one of these? I remember some back when the sd-adapter first came out you could only order trough taobao.com and had to use some inbetween sevice website to order if your not from china!
Is it still so hard, or am i able to just order one of these and let it deliver to germany (europe)
gr33tings and happy eastern (not sure if this is the right term to use)

How is this mod vs the gdemu or the usb gdrom ? I take it it's slow like the old sd card mod.

i would love to see something like this that has a integrated gdrom emulator so you dont need a bios mod to use it.
As far as i understand the dreamcast hardware this should be possible. GDROM emu as master and HDD as slave.
The emulator could be a small flash storage that only stores the DreamShell loader so you dont have to mod the bios.

I own a usb-gdrom adapter but a native hdd connection has its benefits for homebrew.

Before the SD cards were redily available, I made this video and a guide on another site I can't mention here on how to buy through a 3rd party site. I am sure a few of you old timers remember that lol.

Jesus that was a long time ago I made that video, but I used to have instructions on how to go through that 3rd party site. I believe it was called buyfromtaobao.com.

Lol, I even made a review of the sd adapters here and check my old post on how I had to jump through hoops to get one sold to me and shipped from China to Texas.

Anyways, I am interested in this, as mine is basically a paper weight now since it will not even spin up discs now.

Dreamshell was a horror show to use. Required ISO's to be patched specific to the version of it. Haven't followed whether they actually fixed that. I couldn't deal with it, went right to GDEMU when that was available.
