    FIXED!

    old post
I was formatting my XNA to resolve a lock issue..

The dvd recovery asked me to be sure i wanna format my hdd, i said fuck no.. so i went to go disable HDD in xshell, went back to the recovery and it seemed to all be going smoothly, it was saying "copying files to hdd"

i found that strange since there was no hdd, but whatever? The recovery then FAILS and says an error like 0x00000047

I turn off kit, turn it back on and oh wonderful .. E79

When i burned the CD, there was 2 files, the ISO and a folder called symsrv, my friends told me to LEAVE out symsrv, maybe that was needed???

the kit can still boot to the recovery with the disc inserted, so at least if it WAS the disc that wasn't formatted correctly, i can just burn another ...

I used the recovery over network. I thought this was the normal procedure?

Not if your kit is locked, then you cant do remote recovery :(

Yep if you use an ISO based recovery it will clear out the PC lock, I know cause I have locked myself out before :p

Actually the real reason to do this is to enable streaming games from network.

If your kit came directly from another company, chances are they followed a safe practice and password secured every kit to their office PC's this doesn't become an issue until you try network streaming games to your kit, and you somehow lose the ability to get back onto your kit after locking it, say your PC died, or you deleted neighborhood. You'll then require a password to unlock it .... which at that point, you don't have the original password. uh oh, spagettio. recovery time
