Xbox Xenon G5 dev

Can someone post a picture of the back of the unit, specifically the video card.

I'm at a recycler and there might be a bunch of these here. They have removed stickers on top that match the pattern of the MS ones.

Most are early 2004 units with 1.8ghz cpus. All the serials begin with "XB0"

 

Nope, all were Dual 2.0. I'd up another but I exceeded my quota.

Looks like a vanilla g5.. how the hell am I going to pick it out? It seems the stickers and the software are the only special parts.

 

Most vanilla G5's have a nvidia card and the xenon alpha's have an ATI card. It's not full proof as some vanilla G5's do have ATI cards, but it will help eliminate a lot of them.

 

Them are sexy alpha kits, if they are. Fingers crossed!

What's the different software? BIOS etc? or just some emulator?

 

Well besides the 4 Microsoft stickers on top of the unit, to identify one from the rear view:
1.) Tape over the on-board RJ45 port.
2.) Intel PCI network card in top slot.
3.) ATI X800XT 256MB cards look dual-dvi, but actually has 1 DVI port and one ADC port (Apple Display Connector for Apple Cinema Displays)

I'd assume there are more original XBOX Alpha I's and II's out there then Alpha G5's so finding one should be fun.

On another note about software.
From what I've read online, XDK/SDKs were available for these in Feb 2004 via PNET. So the only way to find out what ran these things is perhaps finding someone who actually worked for a development company that used one in early 2004.

 

Or clone a drive

 

early Mac, they support open firmware , so the G5 dev is same as normal G5 , unlucky my G5 dev also no HDD.
if any one have it , i can tech you how to good clone

 

it have MS asset label on top.

the PowerG5 serial number is "XB" to start, ( normal is YM )

but this is normal G5 , i check firmware ver, it same as retail one
so it just special on HDD , ( if they come with HDD)
if not, may be they use net boot form host system

And XB in the serial number is just a Factory code: Factory: XB (ElkGrove/Sacramento, California)

did your kit come with HDD?
what happen when it power on ? Mac [?] folder ? or command line by open firmware ?

 

Like all of these, none were given/sold to MS employees with the hard drives.
Most likely if yours is missing the other 3 stickers it was probably used for developing Office for MAC or something.

Is that from an actual Xenon hard drive? Is it not booting for you? It may be the open firmware settings needing to point to the correct boot loader file.
