I never understood the blurs in the Japanese porn either.... and according to that article she went into a hotel room with 2 guys, she probably had a 3 some (and even if she didn't everyone is going to say she did anyway), which I'd imagine would label her as a slut in the media. You really can't compare Japanese culture to America, or anywhere else for that matter. Japan is a pretty unique place.

But according to that website I posted a link to, after the war the west basically brought freedom of speech and expression to Japan, but the leaders weren't willing to budge on the porn because culturally they view the nudity as damaging to the morality of their citizens.. I had always read about these devices and I always wondered how they worked and if they worked. They were always somewhat of a urban legend to me. Has anyone ever seen one in real life?

 

If you've ever seen Otaku No Video (which you should it's great early Gainax goofiness) there was a porn otaku they interviewed in a between segment who built his own decensor device.

 

Exactly! I read an old article in a Japanese hobby magazine about them. I always viewed them in the same category as "X-Ray glasses". In that portion of Otaku no Video I don't remember if the guy says it actually works. I think it'd be interesting to see how they work.
