Want to buy wii modchip. I want to play backups from dvd's. Will a softmodded wii allow playing games from cd's and dvd's.
Some newer Wii models won't play back ups from a disc soft modded or not. You can however play your games from a flash drive and the Wii is easy to soft mod.

There is if you want to play backups or imports from a disc without using any sort of 3rd party app. The gamecube loader apps in particular for the Wii are awful.
I use Nintendont in tandem with either USBLoaderGX or CFG Loader, it allows you to use all the box art same as using Wii games.
While we wait for you to release a GC loader that's not awful I'll just have to stick with devolution and nintendont. I mean how dare they release a loader that only plays 99.9% of games flawlessly.
Was about to reply until I saw Pikmin's post. There is only 1 game that can't be played from the full NGC library. One you could purchase from Japan if you REALLY wanted it. Likewise, if one is comfortable with using 3rd party chips (after all they're not from Nintendo) I think he can be comfortable enough using 3rd party apps as well. Also, why would one want to play backups from a disc when it can be done from a USB or SD card? Seems like a waste of DVDs to me.
You can also use usb loader gx to launch gamecube games with Nintendont. You dont need to use the interface directly
