Putting aside the games with violence in them, such as GTA, I see plenty of people flat out call video games something "for kids". I never said that the targeted age group wasn't kids but that just means it is targeted for them. Toy Story is targeted for kids but there are plenty of jokes in it that are for the adults watching too. And GTA may have a targeted age range of 17+ but I see plenty of 8-16 year olds playing too. Targeted and socially acceptable are very different concepts. It is socially acceptable for a 15 year old to murder aliens in Halo and snap someone's neck in Manhunt 2 but god forbid a 25 year old watch MLP.
That's the way it always is, even kids prefer to watch/play stuff that's for an older age group, which is most likely why there are so few games specifically for kids, and why Nintendo was hurt by the perception of it being "kiddy" even though Mario and Zelda games aren't really specifically for kids...
