So I got a message on Live two nights ago from a friend who said that if I looked at someone's achievements for Strider then I would be able to download the game for free. I wasn't sure if this was some weird spam or something, but since he referenced who he got the game from in the message I decided to try it.

Lo and behold, it worked. It seems they have fixed the issue since then however, as last night no one could get the game by looking at my achievements.

Anyways, the game is pretty damn awesome. Terrible art direction, but fantastic gameplay (so, a lot like Shinobi on 3DS, though not as psychotically difficult, yet). It's more Metroid-y and not really arcade-y, but it works and it's a lot of fun.

So yeah, I would recommend buying it certainly, in fact I'm going to buy it on the Xbox 360 just so I can pay for it (since it's a damn fine product).

Time ago there was a method to download god and xbla for free using hacked accounts. It worked pretty good until it was shut down. Dunno if its live again.

Sad that this will be the last console game from that studio, they are amazon's bitch now.

Indeed. With Killer Instinct and now Strider they were really starting to seem like a solid studio.

So... despite the fact that Strider is installed on my Xbox One, MS has now disabled it.
I can't say that they're in the wrong for doing so, but the fact that they can do that is why I will quit playing new games if they ever go all digital.

^damn, should've guessed that would happen. also OP post some more impressions if you can, specifically metroid-y vs arcadey! really looking forward to this one, and based on what ive seen i at least don't dislike the art direction as much as say SF IV.

    1. Several boss fights from the original return. I didn't get to beat the game so I can't comment on the final boss.

    2. It's more open world than the original, and there is ability gaining, as well as certain colored attacks that open certain colored doors. I.e. you need the charge attack to open some doors, you need the kunai to open others, you need different plasma levels to open yet another, and so on.

    Skills I recall finding:
    Charge attack
    Bullet reflecting blade
    Double jump
Three different options (falcon, panther, and... some weird thing)
    Ability to teleport short distances.
    Kunai
Downward slash (good for breaking weak floors).

    Lots of hidden power-ups. 10 health power-ups, 10 energy power-ups, 5 kunai power-ups, 5 energy recharge speed power-ups, 3 kunai distance power-ups (I think).

    Music was actually decent.

    Boss fights were fun.

Game is difficult at first, but once you get powered up it's a bit easy (I was playing on Normal). You health replenishes by killing enemies or breaking health tanks (of which there is an abundance, maybe not so much on hard?)

Infinite lives. Save points which also allow health recharge.

And... that's all I've got. It certainly looked badass flipping around slicing communist robots and knocking their laser beams back at them.

Hopefully I'll be able to run this game on my laptop, cuz I've been sold on this game since it was announced (but jp.'s post doesn't exactly hurt my wanting it either), being that I'm a huge fan of Metroid and the SotN-style Castlevanias (not to mention the original Strider games).

    Also,

What? That fact that he had a chance to play the game before PC and PS4 owners? That seems like a good thing. Microsoft disabled the game because he shouldn't have it now. They did nothing wrong. Annoying, Yes but wrong, no.

If microsoft were really evil bastards they'd stop me playing all the games I download from the UK XBOX Live store that have never been released in Japan. I've been playing Strider myself yet it's not released here, yet.

At this point, do you even know what you're trying to say?

Like I said, MS was not in the wrong for disabling the game for me, I got it early for free somehow. I was clearly in the wrong, especially if I had never paid for the game. I just don't like that game systems these days (including PCs AND the PS4) can allow the console manufacturer some control over what I can and cannot play.

It isn't a hard concept. Think. It's good for you.

As for whether they turned the game back on for me, I don't know, I've been playing Bravely Default and Titanfall (which are both incredible).

Yes that supporting Microsoft is stupid.

Anyways before you xbox fanboys accuse me of fanboyism because I no longer worship at the alter of Gates. I downloaded the Demo of Strider on both PS3 and 360 and I'm actually considering buying both versions. Reason being, the 360 version is actually easier than the PS3 version. Mind you I played both versions on the same difficulty and I found the 360 version to be the easier of the two. The only other difference I noticed was the lighting on the PS3 being SLIGHTLY better than the 360. Otherwise they're the same.

LOL. I just paid and downloaded Strider for the PC thru Steam. It requires 64-bit Windows and a DX11 card. *facepalm* :(

Generally speaking you should have a shred of intelligence before proclaiming something stupid, and I'm afraid that you do not meet this requirement.
