That is a very good point. It makes you wonder how someone could be so crass to someone, especially when they stand to make good money from the partnership

Where is this message found? I've looked at the site and cannot find it.

BTW, I purchased one which was delivered at the end of January 2016. Firmware is 15/11/20(a). If any one can give instructions on how to extract it, iIll do that and post it.

Perhaps a GUI? There are nicer menus on the freaking Harmony Cart on the Atari 2600!!!!!!!!!!

Looking forward to the new firmware. Also disappointed in all the drama between MNEMO and SAG. He seemed to have burned several bridges with all of that. Despite that, I had good business with him. When I contacted him he got back to me fairly quick and my transaction went smooth. Wish he would've worked with Krikzz. I think if all of these different developers could collaborate we could all benefit greatly.

It is on the main page for USB GDROM. Now it says this:

more features, fixes, improved compatible with HDD- in development: alfa testing started

So, it sounds like it's complete now that alpha testing has begun

So was there ever a consensus on what resistor to use to reduce heat in the dreamcast? I'm too much of a noob to try de-soldering something.

It's already mentioned on this site. 300ohm 1/2w resistor

    Hi

I read all 19 pages but I'm still in doubts about best option for me to reduce heat in Dreamcast.

I've already ordered an gdrom usb directly from Mnemo. He replied to me after SAG drama (I was waiting for a reply for 3 weeks) paid an he already shipped it. But in want to use a external hd to fill all the trurip collection in one place.

Picopsu seams to be the best technical option but I'm in Brazil and will have difficult to find components here and I don't have room for tries. I should buy the right component in the first try. To add difficult I will have to hire a technican do to the work for me. I never touch a soldering iron!

So picopsu will only be an option to me if anyone have a Dreamcast plug and play ready and tested picopsu to sell to me ( please contact...)

The only remaining options are the resistor between ground and 12v rail and the original psu mod for cut the 12v generation.

What option are the best? De soldering and take off the 2 components of original psu will indeed reduce heat? Someone here said no...

My Dreamcast have a ide mod with a 3.5 hdd but with external power supply. I will loose this mod with any solution?

    Thanks

    Mauricio

Removing 12v linear voltage regulator does indeed work. The pico power supply I would say is the best solution because its just much more efficient then the stock unit. But I prefer the stock unit over a hacked in pico, Now if there was a pico in the same form factor as the original psu...

Since there is not such pico psu avaiable (and I also needed it wilth all dreamcast compatible conectors), what remaining option to you consider the best? I´m inclined to add the resistor because I can easily return psu to original estate but if removing the 12v have advantages, I can go either way.

About the hdd, do you think it´s a better idea to drive the usb cable outside case and leave the HDD outside (less heat)? Do you think I can do it without moding the case? I will install the lid switch, so I think I will cannot be able to play with the lid open to pass the cable...

    Thanks

    Mauricio

I think MNEMO's original intention with V5 is to use a usb thumb drive. Not an external hard drive

The resistor thing is still up in the air, the last thing I read is that you need something rated in the 3-5 watt range.

I would keep the hard drive on the outside. If it was me, I would install something like this to the back of the case:

I didn´t have an option since Mnemo only manufacture v5 now. He told me that he only use usb thumb drive.

If nothing else change, I will go to the "removing 12v" path. I don´t have the means to be testing 1/2w, 3w or other wattage resistor.

Nice adapter. Where did you find it?

No, people said that wasn't good enough.

I'm trying to find a solderless solution and it seems the resistor is the way to go for that. So a 5w resistor at how many ohms?

Alternatively, could I just put another fan in it?

Also this was on the order page for the USB GDROM:

Good enough for me, had no issues after 16 hours continous play and the system is frequently used.

Tbh, all this heat blah, blah is blown out of proportion and made to sound worse than it is. Yes, there is extra heat (spikes) on the 12v since USB and gdemu both don't require 12v to run and I own them both. Because of the drive being removed it plays a part too, so creating a air filter inside helps this. All this extra fan stuff, is overkill imo, yet each to their own I guess, if you wish to do that.

anyone tried neogeo cd selfboot games on their device?
I currently have only one system to test (where i switched the gdrom drive with the usb gdrom adapter) and tried a cdi i found online of neo turf masters.
The game works but the audio is very broken, i cant remember those problems when i used those games before with a neo4all boot disk. Anyone else have xperience with this?

i also wanted to create more selfboot neo geo cd games but i cant figure out how to create those a cdi with working cdda tracks. Bootdreams only allows to add those if you select to burn the disc directly or create a alcohol120% image and those dont work on the unit.

I paid Usd 187 a few days ago (but ordered in february) Someone here talked with Mnemo and he promise a reduction soon. But I don´t know if is a reduction from his actual price (USD 187) or a reduction from Stoneage price ( USD 259.99)... My guess is a new price around USD 200.
