From Senran Kagura to Blazblue, to Guilty Gear to ok pretty much every Japanese game ever. There have been countless games that make absolutely no sense, but we play them anyway.

Take the Final Fantasy XV Platinum demo for example, You're a boy, then you're a man, then it's a dream, You're big, you're small, You're kind of playing Kingdom hearts...it ends........ and you have fuck all idea what you just played other than a nice current gen tech demo that's bordering on some Advent Children shit.

How about Katamari? God gets drunk, the stars go bye bye, so you basically commit genocide to restore the stars.

I have no idea what Senran Kagura is about, I think it's something about Teenage Ninja and Boobs.

So let us discuss game plots that make no sense. It's late, I've been playing Senran Kagura Estaval Versus. I'm feeling chatty.

There's a name that always pops up in my mind when talking about confusing messes of games, David Cage. From Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit) to Beyond Two Souls, the man can't write to save a life, and still insists on doing it.:p

I remember when Indigo Prophecy came out, I was really hyped about it. Seemed like a game with a really interesting premise that puts the story on the forefront! I mean the game starts with you committing a murder in a diner bathroom in a trance like state, now that's a really powerful way to start a story. Thought it would be right up my alley, and it was, until you get to the part in the office with the giant psychic bugs and go "ooookaaaay?" slightly confused. I was willing to put that past but then you start going the messiah route with a mayan prophecy, the apocalypse and to top it all off, a freaking electric A.I. monster from the future... Feels like David just threw every little idea he had into the game, no matter how shitty it was.

I kinda liked Heavy Rain, more down to earth serial killer story. It's okay if you fill in the numerous blanks yourself and can ignore the lazy twist at the end that kind of doesn't make any sense. Also, apparently there was supposed to be paranormal stuff in it as well but they decided to cut all of that out at the last minute, that's why some parts of the story seems to hang or just plain don't make any sense.

And last AND definitely the least, Beyond Two Souls. Only good thing about it is Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. The story is stupid and told in non-chronological order for absolutely no reason but to make it appear more "artistic".

I realise this came out more as a rant against David Cage and his "story telling" but they are usually just as confusing as they are bad. And bad they are.:p

Still haven't played Nomad Soul though, it has actual gameplay and David Bowie in it so it can't be that bad.

Edit: Cleaned up the text a bit.

    SPOILER ALERT

Poor translation. Squall's alone was completely misinterpreted. I feel like there was a lot more going on than just the GFs.

Did it ever cross your mind that games can also be considered time wasters? Not everything needs a plot for enjoyment.

I think he meant more in the lines of games that try to have a coherent plot but fail at it.

BlazeBlue has a plot, you just need to play it multiple times with different characters and different routes because of its set out like a visual novel, playing just once wont get you the full story.

We need to get Tsubaki back.....BY INSULTING THE FUCK OUT OF HER! Then when we do it means dick to the rest of the plot.

That's exactly what I was talking about.

Which ones are we talking about? Luckily 2 kept it pretty simple.

Ah ah yes, that guy! I really tried to like Heavy Rain, but the story really kills it. I had fun making the characters suffer. Like in most "QTE" scenes, I dropped the controller and just enjoyed the scene. I tried Beyond Two Souls, but didn't find anything enjoyable yet.

Katamari is the kind of game that makes no sense, but is really fun.

Deadly Premonition is another game that makes no sense, but it is part of the experience.

What really makes no sense to me is Pokemon. I just don't get it. I was probably too old when it first came out. I tried some of the games lately and I do not see any major difference between all the versions. My step-son is really into it and when he talks about it (very passionately I must add!), I barely understand what he's talking about.

I played a bit of Shinovi Versus before moving up to Estival Versus, but didn't understand the main story well due to a language barrier. For Estival Versus, it's because I got the Chinese copy and I can't quite read (traditional) Chinese.
The games also have character-specific side stories, some of which were just... LOL.

Personally, I think that not all games were meant to have strong storylines, otherwise logic would kick in and then you can't have some game mechanics.
Right now, I'm just enjoying how much cuter they made the characters.

It's not that bad. Unless you're big on the sanctity of the fourth wall. Plus Bowie. I half-reviewed it before I moved and still haven't gotten around to finishing it.
