The Earthquake Check In thread

A very tactical question at a moment like this.

 

I am still shocked by this terrible news. My first thought went to all those I know in Japan and if they are ok. So far it seems like everyone I know is all safe. It had to happen at some point, but now that it was the time it's still of surprising devastation and force. The videos of plane fields being flooded is terrifying.
I still remember very well how I flew over these parts of Japan before I landed in Narita - it's scary to see those regions being destroyed like in some B-movie.

Thank God the Japanese are responsible and forward-looking people when it comes to earthquake preparation. Otherwise half Tokyo could have collapsed and many thousands had died in a minute. Just look at what happened in countries like Turkey after much lower sized quakes.

Yeah, everything here is OK. North Kyushu is supposedly bullet-proof for natural disasters. I had no idea anything happened until I started to get messages on my mobile phone from overseas.

Some of the images, especially the ones with the wall of mud moving across the ground, are shocking. I lived in LA for 6 years and I was in the Northridge quake and it was hands down the scariest moment of my life. Small quakes seem "fun" until you're in a larger one and you realize you have absolutely no control over what will happen next. Either the building will collapse or it won't and you just stand there saying to yourself, "don't collapse....don't collapse....don't collapse..." It's a feeling that I don't wish upon anyone but it looks like quite a few people in Kanto just got exposed to it. If you know what I'm talking about then future quakes, even the small ones, will give you quite a scare.

This is terrible, my condolences goes out to all the japanese families affected by this disaster. Local news here had the footage from NHK.

Also I did not catch the name but most japanese here might be able to find out if they have internet access. One of the nuclear reactors is having slight cooling problems right now. They don't expect a major problem, but evacuating the area around it as a precaution.

American news is saying some of the smaller waves are starting to hit Hawaii now, and some warships are being evacuated from the lower lying ports in California.

Glad you guys are unharmed. The real damage will come with the tsunami and flooding as we saw in Indonesia a few years ago. In a shit economy, the cleanup effort this is going to require will be all the more painful.

I really fucking hope your nuclear facilities hold up. I've heard a few mixed reports from everything's fine, to only a few of the auto-shutdowns worked, to 1 has a failed coolant system and could potentially have a meltdown.
