    Hello,

As some of you may be aware, the chatbox has been down for almost a week because of a supposed security issue. I contacted MBMM and Monkeyboyjoey to see what could be done about the issue. We decided to make a Skype group that could be a temporary (or permanent) chatbox via Skype. As of now, we decided to make it invite only. This may be changed at a later date. PM me your Skype ID and it will be added.

!!!FORUM RULES WILL BE CARRIED OVER TO THE CHATBOX!!!

That's what I said, but hey. I would want to use the Steam page we have. I believe it has a chat room built into it. A bunch of our members are already a part of it.

Either way, don't listen to that @MBMM guy. Dude is a dick.

You guys should try out discord, its has a web app you can use as well as desktop version. Much better than skype, it has servers so when you aren't present you don't get stupid notifications every time someone talks.

Been using it for a month or 2 now and I'm liking it.

So, will the chatbox reappear eventually or is it lost forever?

I'm not sure. It's only been temporarily removed according to the banner we received. I think it's just a question of how long it will be out for.

Messaging software is not so popular like in the MSN and ICQ days...
So, how many people are using skype? And the steam thing, how it works?

    So far we have 4 people (me, poke, atom, and MBMM) ;_;

Steam only works on the computer client. I didnt choose it because it doesnt work with the ios/android client. Skype is way more flexible. From pc to xbox to ps vita to even home phones.

How about using Chatroll? I had it on my old forum, it worked well and integrated with the database so it logs members in automatically and only with their username and avatar as used on the forum - so no impersonations were likely. It uses remote servers too, so zero load on your server.

Again, I'm going to stick to my guns and know with what I'm familiar with. If its online I find online chats to be a bit unreliable at times. no notifications either

Skype really seems to be the best option.

Some people just don't want something so personal like skype. And creating another skype account just for this seems unpractical for some.
The site embedded solution like the chatbox or those plugins some sites use like teamviewer etc seems just more "easy" for the community.

But if it's something like a "definitive" chat group it's ok, I think.

Indeed, hence why it is worth looking at others, eg Chatroll. Explore the options, there are options out there and some, like Chatroll, will integrate like the old Shoutbox did.

I, and i'm sure many others, will not bother to use an external facility, if it isn't on the site there to use, meh.
