If your checksum is invalid and you can't boot the dump you'll want to redump to confirm it went okay.
If you always get back the same results, well, that's a bit of a problem...

I'd at least be wary of it. The fact that both came from the same seller and have similar handwriting despite being developed and produced by different companies, combined with the fact that all available info indicates that that Contra Spirits one was a fake certainly draws it into question whether or not this DKC is legit.

Hard to come to any strong conclusion until it is up and running, honestly, but I'd certainly question it at least.

    I think it's a fake proto.

Weren't protos from Rare always equipped with crazy security such as special dongles required for running them etc.?

I doubt that'd be the case with SNES prototypes.

Could you post the dumped files for people to look at?

Yes, as @Xzx123 suggested, be wary of the proto you have as it might be another forgery. When I first saw your picture of the prototype, that blanket atop the chips reminded me of the Contra Spirits one. Then it turns out to be the same seller.

One thing about nowhere.japan's "prototypes" is that the auction listings were always worded in specific ways and the games themselves never seemed to be anything other than what is already available to download online. If this one's legit, that's a first.

Handwriting looks like the typical "I have no idea how to write in Japanese" that we see on fakes.

Not necessarily, if you imagine someone writing on the tape after sticking it onto the chips.

The hiragana in particular look rather "native" to me.

Either way, it is definitely questionable and likely fake given the origin + the fakeness of those two Contra prototypes from that seller (the EPROM labels on the right side one are Culture Brain-style and likely reburnt EPROMs originating from that company).

That is the worst fake I've seen. The Japanese writing is the worst attempt by a non Japanese, the strokes aren't right.

Agreed, the handwriting looks perfectly normal/native. There is nothing wrong with the stroke order.

The writing looks alright to me too. Maybe it's just neater than you guys are used to seeing? Whenever I get something shipped to me within Japan, the writing of the sender is nigh unreadable. Same as on the rom chips on my two SFC protos.
