Story behind Dreamcast Director white box (instead of orange)?

I recently found this boxed Dreamcast online:




I was surprised because I had never seen this type of box in white, I'd always seen the regular orange release.

Does anyone know more about this version? Was it on sale at the same time as the orange one? Was it released afterwards?

That box is for refurbished units afaik

 

Is that an early refurbished unit? The only refurbished JPN units I know of look like this:


A late HK-type box (no top flap) with a sticker on it. It was sold late in the DC's life when it was pretty much dead, i.e. as a bundle with Under Defeat.
