Hi, this is a Steam Box beta unit that was acquired via the Valve hardware beta test. 300 of these units were manufactured and numbered according to the holes on the cover. This particular unit is unmodified. I have the original shipping box (which is awesome), the recovery USB drive and some if not all of the original paperwork. I do not have the 3D-Printed beta Steam Controller that came with this unit. Specs: Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, GeForce GTX780, 500GB Hybrid SSD. More info here: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Steam+Machine+Teardown/20473 Thoughts on what it's worth? The facing has only the most minimal wear, very close to unnoticeable.
I would only buy it for the parts value, maybe a little extra for the case. I Cant see it going to be worth any more than that since there is no sticker or anything like that proving its a beta unit? Just re-read it and you've got the paper work but i still wouldnt think its work much more that parts value
Id say they are worth a bit more than that, but there is definitely a limit since it really is just a fancy case. That said, Id want one And a beta Steam Controller
The drilled holes on the top of the case are what identify it as a beta unit -- there's a very specific numbering system.
There was a prototype steam controller on ebay a couple days ago. Not sure if it was the one used for this unit though... I don't follow these steam boxes much lul.
[sarcasm]Gosh, those sure will be hard to fake if these things ever go up in value.[/sarcasm] I'm in the "parts value plus a bit extra" camp right now. Not sure if I'd sell it asap or wait it out and see if Steam machines take off (then it might go up) if it were my machine...
dude is this you? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steam-Box-Prototype-Hardware-Test-Unit-Only-300-Distributed-/231662569853?hash=item35f02a497d (because it's only worth $6-700)
Ebay is weird, so you never know what will happen hah. let me know if you end up looking for any trades
shooting high won't get you anywhere it's not worth any where near even $1000 i wouldn't even try $500
Are you always this hostile or am I just a special case? Edit: just looked at your previous activity. You're always this hostile. Carry on with the unpleasantness.
why? i was just helping somebody appraise their item no i just don't like people selling their items for prices so high only high level collectors can afford them
While I agree that the price is high, your argument that items should be cheaper so that more people can buy them is flawed. If someone is willing and able to pay more than you, you can't blame the seller for not reducing the rate to accommodate you. The "market" can influence the price. I say can, because there will always be sellers that ignore the market and price themselves way above it with no intent to negotiate. (25k for an orange xbox case) On the other hand, you aren't likely to find many sellers that will post items lower than average price, just so that "low level collectors" can have a chance to own them. When there aren't any previous public sale prices to base it on, you can start bidding at a dollar and see what happens or price it at a grand and see if anyone bites. Both this thread and the ebay sale are an attempt to get a better idea on value. Even your own opinion on value is fluctuating, initially you say $6-700 then you "wouldn't even try $500". So you can imagine the current owners of beta boxes are also having a hard time nailing down a price. Barking@betty at least seems willing to negotiate.
