I found this today at a thrift store and was wondering exactly what it is since it does not have a valid part # and a not for sale sticker on it. It appears to be a Sony Viao product for testing??

Looks like an evaluation machine. I have an XPS like that, they use them for testing hinges, repeat clicking, etc.

It should have been recycled really, the non final stuff can be a bit sketchy and battery fires issues.

Dumping it's bios would be something bios hacking forums would be very interested in as it's probably fully unlocked.

If it boots run Sisandra and get a complete readout of the components and post it here.

Probably an engineering sample. Nice find.

Btw, it's "Vaio" (mentioned it just so people using the search function can find this thread.)

It's weird it has all the product stickers.. I have a prototype Compaq iPaq that's missing all the regular info stickers and instead has the "Engineering Sample" sticker.

Thank you all for your expertise. Since I am not a huge fan of computer prototypes I might let this go if anyone is interested in it.

It's interesting but really of no special value beyond the ebay price for a comparable model.

If it's different from the retail SONY Vaio laptops, why wouldn't this be worth more to a collector?
