That is brilliant and I'm ashamed to have never thought of it! Thank you for educating me.

If the Xbox logo comes up (BIOS) but then it goes black doesn't that usually mean something is wrong with the hard drive?

As APE said, nope. A harddrive error would usually blink on the front of the console, and usually gives an error. No video could be a number of things, most not so serious (wrong video mode)

Yea could be the video mode. Like the 360 we have a button combination we use to chage the region.

The issue is accidentally hitting the wrong button and potentially losing data, especially for someone who doesnt know exactly whats going on or whats on it. hence why I recommend just putting it on a network and figuring that out first.

Yea that would be good to FTP the data first.

Ah so its been modified, always fun. I'd be curious to know if it was done after the fact or not. Still a chance that there is something on the drive, but strange

That is better. XBMC can go through everything on the hard drive, maybe something is still there.

Is it possible to write a data recovery program for FatX? Ive got an idea on how, and especially for some 360 kits a friend of mine has. Damm i should find time to program. Goodluck Skapunk :D

ps(Yeah I know there is no real FAT, and files identification can only be done on raw data or sector base analysis or something.)

The manuals are really quite random what they go for. There have been complete sets for sale over the years that didn't go for much, but some that went for more (exact numbers I can't recall). Worth putting up on Ebay.
