I like the fact that David Cage seems to have a passion for attemtping to craft character-driver, cinematic experiences, but his execution just isn't all that good. I also think his personal preferences can get in the way of his crafting a good story/game.

Uwe Boll thinks his vision is great also but trash is still trash.

Uwe Boll, huh? It seems like you chose the most mainstream "bad" film director you could think of and used him as a comparison point. I'm not really sure what you're trying to convey with your argument, either. Users on this thread haven't defended David Cage nor promoted his "vision" at all. If anything, I'd like to see someone defend David Cage at this point. I mean, his games are critically accepted and sell well. Surely someone on here has enjoyed his games.

Also, trash? While his games may not be the best example of quality video games, they certainly aren't unplayable. I consider "trash" to be reserved for abysmal games: games that are either blatantly unfinished, unplayable or devoid of any value. While I personally don't find his games engaging, plenty of others have.

There is no way anybody can say his games aren't art.

They are unplayable because there is nothing to play. Watch yes. bad QTE yes but play? nope. He makes pretentious trash. Limiting the medium.
We also need to drop the idea of games being films. I don't normally like this guy but on this subject he's dead right.

I saw once a guy poked a 1000 holes in a empty water bottle and it sold as modern art. So yeah anything can be art but it's still garbage.

At least he didn't use Michael Bay...personally, I think Tommy Wiseau is a better comparison, since he thought The Room was a masterpiece of drama, much like David Cage thinks detective story + Saw + massive plot holes is some kind of revolutionary story concept.

Beyond: Two Souls got pretty bad reviews and didn't sell nearly as well as Heavy Rain. Don't know why Heavy Rain got such good reviews to begin with, other than reviewers for some reason not realizing the story doesn't make a lick of sense.

Besides, I don't know why I should give the guy credit just for "trying". Maybe when he makes something that isn't horribly written horseshit.

    Jim nails it.

Danny from The Point also have some good arguments as well, like it or not.

Honest question to all of you criticizing on Quantic Dream's games, you played Omikron/The Nomad Soul, right?

Used to own it on DC. Sold it a month later. At least it was a game. Still forced sex scenes and just the game was not good but stll had gameplay.

By this logic, Dragon's Lair is trash then.
Tommy Wiseau would definitely be a better comparison. Maybe M. Night Shyamalan after Signs, or The Village if you're so inclined.
Beyond: Two Souls got polarizing reviews, not unlike Deadly Premonition or God Hand. B:TS may have not sold as well has Heavy Rain, but it did sell a million copies in 3 months. Not too bad. Indigo Prophecy also pulled in solid reviews, but didn't fair as well sales wise. It's a shame; that seems to be his best game so far.
I honestly don't think anybody is giving him credit for much of anything. I hear nothing but negative things about the guy on this forum. His games don't mean much to me, and this one doesn't seem like it will change that trend.

Indigo Prophecy is probably the one game he's made that comes the closest to being good, if only the story didn't get so goddamn stupid towards the end. Oh, and the stealth levels (because cramming those into your game was cool in 2005) really suck too.

Indigo is easily the worst game I ever played and I have played Superman 64and own Atari ET.
Starts out as ok concept ends up with giant mutant bugs Dragon Ball and forced sex scenes.

QTEs were a huge fad in the gaming industry between 2000 and like 2008ish. Between Shenmue and God of War every game had tons of them. I guess fadish thing is what I was looking for.

I think if he were a movie director (which seems to be his calling), he'd probably make arthouse films that 4 influential critics like and make $58 at the box office.

Some of it, it's really clunky and unintuitive.

I wanted to put an enormous T for Teen logo during the first sex scene in my video, but I didn't have the time to deal with that.

Let's not say things we can't take back.

I don't know why people feel the need to attack the more cinematic games, simply because they are cinematic. I happened to really like Heavy Rain and thoroughly enjoyed A Wolf Among Us (another game in the QTE-movie style).

That's awesome. All the stolen things from games much better than it make it all worthwhile for that ending.
